Okami has good wrestling so he should be fine.

Very interesting matchup.  As soon as the details are a little bit firmer, we'll add the fight as rumored to Tapology.

My opinion:  Okami does pose some problems.  Silva vs Henderson and Silva vs Sonnen are good fights to compare against.  Both those fights saw Silva struggle with his opponent's wrestling.  Okami's wrestling is good, but it isn't on the level of either of those guys, and in particular he doesn't seem to have an explosive shot like Sonnen.

On the other hand Okami's boxing has been looking pretty good and he'll be more comfortable standing.  Sonnen didn't really try and stand with Silva... he just used big punches to power into his takedowns. I don't know that Okami can do that.  He likes to box, clinch up, beat up and wear down his opponents, and use that to find openings for takedowns.  And that could play right into Silva's strengths. He's just nasty in the clinch.  If Okami can get top position I don't think he'll get submitted like Sonnen did, but I don't know if he'll be able to get nearly as many takedowns as Sonnen.

nice to see Okami finally getting his shot..i'd have to completely agree with your assessment Gregory..I can see Okami getting a takedown but not the frequency Sonnen got but probably won't get submitted either (and hopefully not kicked in the face again as well)

Its been a long time coming.. Okami can give Anderson problems but I dont see Okami winning this at all, as a matter of fact Silva will knock him out and further cement his legacy as the greatest of all time imo.

Finally... hope this comes to fruition.  I see Okami taking the 1st few rounds.. before the inevitable.

The best part about Okami's wrestling is his amazing sprawl....which won't come into play against Silva. I'd favor Silva via stoppage but Okami is looking like hes ripening like a fine wine with age. Can't pick against silva here though.

This match up seems a little pointless to me... Dana hypes Silva v. GSP and then goes and gives Okami a title shot?  Although Anderson will prevail I'd rather see him take a fight at 205, since there is no one, besides a rematch with Sonnen,  Im even interested in seeing him fight at 185.

I know Okami's a decent wrestler, but he doesn't stand a chance in this fight.  If anyone hasn't seen the first fight I suggest watching it.  Okami was completely outclassed and I think Anderson has improved more since then.  Anderson will hardly break a sweat in my opinion.  I can only see Okami taking a decision, but I can't see him lasting 25 minutes without getting knocked out or submitted.

Yeah honestly I'm interested to see this fight, but I think Okami's biggest problem is going to be his speed (or lack thereof) compared with Anderson. He's going to get picked apart IMO.

I think it's good Okami finally gets a title shot, he certainly has earned it. Unfortunately, he does not posses the skills or talent to be a real threat to Silva's title. Anything can happen though, look at their last fight.

I hate to be the one that says it, because I'll get hate for it, but the only reason this fight is happening is because GSP is ducking Silva. Although I think this is a cool fight, considering Okami has the tools to win this one, it sucks that we don't get to see Anderson/GSP, even though Dana said they'd do it after Anderson beats Vitor and GSP beats Shields. GSP has 100 excuses not to fight the fight every mma fan wants to see.

I easily take this fight over anderson vs gsp. Okami fought for his title shot. even if i have the power to make the gsp fight, i wouldnt want to see it.

This is going to be a tricky matchup. If Okami can be more explosive and unpredictable with his takedowns I could see him pulling out a decision. Of course being a smart man I would never bet against Silva. I'm saying Silva KO in the later rounds, seeing as Okami has some of the best defensive striking in MMA.

I'm just tired of opponents for A. Silva being hyped like they really have a chance when I know they're incredibly outclassed. Chael truly had a chance, Vitor truly had a chance, Okami doesn't have a prayer of a chance.
Maia, Leites and Cote were all horrible mismatches and I consider Okami in this category.
He hasn't even finished an opponent in over 3 years and he's not going to be able to point-strike his way to victory over Anderson.

Well, actually the doctor finished Linhares and I thought it was a BS stoppage.
