I think they should, and here is why.

For the most part, elbows on the ground cause cuts, that don't directly end fights, but indirectly do. Understand, i do think standing elbows are effective, and dont often cut their opponents due to angle of the strike. But I do not think cutting someone and winning via cut in a legitimate way to win. While it can happen with punches and kicks, it happens all to frequently with elbows on the ground. Cain vs Bigfoot is a good example on how quickly a fight can change witha  sharp elbow... Machida Jones, florian leben - and even afetr a fighter is KO'd Ludwig Hardy. I just think the cuts suffered are unnecessary and can **** over a fighters career because of soft tissue (Bonnar, Sherk)

Thats why you either get up, sweep, sub, or survive. If you dont like it then stick to grappling or dont get put on your back.

@ Nik - How do you stop somone from wrestle******* you? I've seen in PRIDE where a fighter went for a takedown, and got kneed in the head while he was on all fours trying to get it. I thought to myself, "that's one way to stop a wrestler from getting his grubby mits on you.", if I remember correctly, I don't remember who it was, but I remember the fight, after the wrestler got kneed in the head, he was finished by a soccerkick. Was it brutal? Hell yes it was, but I enjoyed the fight.

No matter what, I still say keep elbows legal. Bloody, brutal, outrageous, exciting fights is what the fans want to see.

Yes punches and kicks can all cause cuts too. But it's a fact, elbows and knees cause more cuts than any other strike.

Im assuming you are still talking only elbows and knees on the ground should be illegal, but what about on the feet? Knees cause plenty of cuts on the feet.

@live2wrestle knees on the feet are less accurate and they are more probable to get knockouts.

@AnikM plus, hands have gloves.

Dont wanna get cut by elbows on the ground? Defend yourself and dont get taken down. Also, in order for an opponent to be grounded, i think that fighter has to be on both knees, that "putting one hand down while being pressed on the cage" **** is ******* stupid.

Why must everything have a high probability for a KO? Should we ban the jab too?

Not necessarily, I think Jones would still be an outstanding talent.

I can see where you're coming from, but elbows are just as much a part of the game as sweeps and subs.  If a fighter can't defend against elbows, then he should learn to not get put into that position in the first place.

I agree with allowing upkicks and knees to the head from bottom to a downed opponent (not sure how the knees would work, though).  I'm not so sure about soccer kicks.
