Why? He fighting a guy 40 pounds heavier then him. He should not be the favorite at all nor should there be any shame in him losing.

You do realize he's fought in the division before? At 205 he was looking like **** and could barely get through Eliot Marshall and now he's going back up and gets a fight with Rothwell who isn't very highly ranked. If he loses that he really has nothing to offer to either division.

@Legz I agree. Vera's best performance at 205 was against Shogun who's past his prime and Shogun still KO'd him.

I still don't understand how Vera was brought back after Thiago Silva schooled him and played conga's on his back.

The heavyweight division has lesser names, but the guys there are bigger and hit harder and Vera's not exactly a huge heavyweight.

It would be funny if they do Vera vs. Mir II after this if Vera wins.

I think Rothwell wins this by first round KO.

He was actually cut after the Silva fight and got brought back after Thiago pissed hot. This was probably a not so good decision by Vera, I see Big Ben winning a boring decision.

Yes I do, does not make it right to cut him after losing to a guy 40 pounds heavier then him.. Especially when he took Shogun a top 5 LHW to 4 rounds in a war the fight before. He extremely under size for Heavy weight.  That like cutting Kenny Florian if Kenny came back and fought a Middle weight and lost. Do you understand how much of an advantage 40 pounds is? especially when I guy has spent the last 5 year acclimating his body to 205 pounds weight class.

I am assuming he taking this fight as a favor to UFC. if he just deciding to move up to heavy weight and loses then he should be cut because he an idiot. However if he doing this as a favor to the UFC he should not get cut for losing.

I don't see any reason why they shouldn't cut him if he loses this one. He would be 1-4 (1) in his last 6 fights.

I think moving back to Heavyweight is a huge mistake. Vera is far too small to deal with the dudes at Heavyweight.. Plus there is alot of fights I wanted to see him in at LHW. Most notable being Vera/Wanderlei. But Stann/Vera would also be the ****. Hell, that Latifi dude against Vera would be a slugfest. He is missing on some good fights with legit opportunity in the weight class.

Yes I don't think you should be cut for doing the UFC a favor when you are fighting a guy 40 pounds heavier then you. That beyond a simple favor. That like a light weight fighting a middle weight. So your pic is not really what I am talking about at all. There a difference with fighting someone as a favor for the UFC in your weight class on short notice and fighting a guy a weight class above with a massive size advantage.

40 lbs heavier means nothing. They are both the same weight.. Heavyweight. It's Vera's own fault for going into a division where he is undersized in comparison to a large portion of the guys in said division. I don't think that will come into play at all when discussing whether or not he should be released (with a loss).

Note: I am a fan of Vera.

I'm worried this fight might look like the Sylvia Vera fight. Vera has been pushed around by larger opponents. I don't see any reason Rothwell will be any different. Rothwell via ugly boring Dec.

@Mike,

I think your opinion is stupid. If Vera is doing UFC a favor which I am not certain he is, but if he is, then he should not be cut. He not fighting a guy in his weight class, he fighting a guy a weight class above, which is already a disadvantage. Then on top of it he fighting a heavy weight that is 40 pounds heavier then him. That like the Dan Hardy getting cut after taking a fight with Forrets griffin and losing. The size difference is utterly ridiculous. If your doing organization a favor and putting your self at a huge size disadvantage by taking a fight with a fighter way out side your weight class then you should not get cut. If you are doing so just because you want to, then you should be cut. That is at least how I see it. if UFC asks you to step up and take a fight with a guy massively larger then you as a favor for them, then they should acknowledge this and not cut you.

By the way I hate Vera, think he a pompus prick who was a never was.

There's no way this fight is a favor to the UFC. The fight's a long ways off, which means it's not a late-notice replacement situation or anything like that. Either the UFC approached Vera with the idea of going back up to HW, or (more likely) he wants to test the waters there himself without cutting to 205, since HW is a weaker division skill-wise than LHW. They could have matched Rothwell up with anyone in the HW division outside the top ten.

How is he 'coming in as a favor' or 'a weight class above his'? This fight is MONTHS away. It's not like he is a replacement..

Doesn't make any sense to me, but whatever i guess. Vera's going to be ridiculously undersized.
