Prediction: dos Santos  |  KO/TKO  |  Round 2

I'm leaning Dos Santos here. Overeem has the edge in power and kickboxing technique, but Dos Santos is not going to cower and get bullied. When push comes to shove I'm worried about Overeem's ability to handle being in a war, not to mention his cardio with all that muscle. I'm going with a mid to late 2nd round stoppage due to strikes on the ground.

I'm with you Gregory I don't think Overeem is going to be able to take very many of Junior's punches, I'm thinking he ends it in the first

I agree with you guys. Overeem has lots of power and technique, but he hasn't exactly been fighting opponents the calibre of JDS in recent years. Instead of cowering or backpedalling Junior will stand with him or be the aggressor and should be able to take or avoid most of The Reem's strikes and answer with his own and I actually believe he may equal The Reem in the power department. And even though it was over 4 years ago, we all remember what happened last time Alistair fought a proficient striker who would not be bullied:

"If the enemy rejects the ground, I would take him down by tackle. Why didn’t he [Royler] do so? May I introduce him to a good coach? His tackle was... like a girl’s one... Mr. Royler, how are you feeling?" - Kazushi Sakuraba

Im thinking JDS will get the decision win, I think the fight is gonna be a long one with a lot of jabs and missed strikes

I think skeet could be right it's maybe gonna play out like the JDS/Carwin fight but with two striking experts anything can happen but I will pick JDS "for sure"...

I agree, that JDS has the advantage, and he´s not gonna run away from punches, but I think the fight could go either way, Overeem has  a lot of power and has formidable kicks, JDS hasn´t fought an opponent who has that kind of power in his kicks, and I think that could take him by surprise, plus usually JDS is the agressor and I don´t know if he is gonna be able to bully Overeem in that way. So pretty much both have the same style, but imo Overeem is the more well rounded fighter, but JDS has the most techincal strikes (not leg kicks). I defenitly can see Overeem softening him with kicks and taking him to the ground and pulling a submisson, that is of course if he can take the fight to the ground, before getting ko´d

P.S I think they are even at cardio

You never know though, one head kick could end everything and Overeem is certainly capable of that...

I'm by no means counting out Overeem. One strike can easily end the fight and that is specially true with Heavyweight strikers. However if it goes down like Junior's fight with Carwin, it's not looking good for The Reem.

And regarding kicks, well, let's just not count JDS out yet, shall we?

I'm pretty sure about everybody has seen it already, but in case you haven't, this is from his training for the Cain fight. I know, I know, for 99.99% we won't see that in a fight, but my point is that even by this point in his career we still have not seen all the weapons in Junior's arsenal. His BJJ for example...? So who knows if he's not saving some of the tricks for such a special occasion like a fight with a bigger, powerful striker.

But of course I might be biased towards JDS, so take my words with a grain of salt:).

Overeem doesn't have the best chin. I mean, Shogun's KO'd him twice. Little Nog TKO'd him. Kharitonov KO'd him. I can't imagine Shogun or Li'l Nog having nearly as much power as JDS. JDS hits Overeem, and it is probably over. My guess is, JDS can take a couple strikes from Overeem considering he did get hit a few times by Carwin in the first round.

Wow, 20 picks in and Dos Santos is the pick-of-choice at 90%.  I'm sure everyone thinks Overeem has better than a 10% chance, but surprised so few are cleanly siding with him.

I, on the contrary, believe Overeem is going to make quick work of Dos Santos.

i say overeem just needs the right gameplan to bully jds into the cage and unleashes knees and kicks. he likes to go for the liver. lesnar was gassed and in agony after one of those so lets see how jds handles that. i am a jds fan too.  17% :- }

This fight should get even odds. I just don't know at this point, I'm leaning towards Overeem because of his size, his power, his diversity of striking and not gonna lie, 'cause he's black.

i want to pick overeem, and i probably will...but he really worries me with the way he doesn't throw combos. i think jds is too quick for him to only throw one punch. but if alistair comes out and unleashes his variety of strikes i think he can take him out

i agree @gregeory overeems cardio isn't the best...but i'd be shocked if this gets out of the 2nd rd either way

Overeem cant really take a good shot considering he is a K1 champion. Dos Santos is dropping Overeem on his ass.

How does Overeem winning the K1 Grand Prix mean he has a bad chin? Am I the only one who's seeing the flaw in that statement?

@Anik M, Hes saying that Overeem should be able to take a shot, especially so since hes k-1 champion, but he cant.

I meant because if hes K1 champion he should be able to take a shot considering the fact he went in and beat like 3-4 of the best kickboxers using stand up. You would think if you were a kickboxing champion you would be able to take a solid shot seeing as the way you won that title was by standing toe to toe and punching dudes in the face.
