for some reason with his height and build I feel that he could easily fight at LHW.  It may take him 4-6 months to get down there but it is feasible.  I just think his height is going to be a hinderance as he goes up against the better Heavyweights.  He is an explosive athlete at Heavywieght and I think the move down would really benefit him a lot.

All that Bill does is take general knowledge and string big words together to try and sound smart.  You shouldn't be criticizing anyones ideas on here.  You used to post topics about reformatting the entire foundation of the UFC.  Don't bash an idea, state why you believe it couldn't or shouldn't happen.

The question is, as you can see from my avatar, Barrys planking is very effective at HW. At LHW, would he be able to perform it with the same speed and precision? Im unsure.

@Russelo Barry's weight cuts would drain him, leaving him unable to plank. This tragedy cannot occur. OCCUPY BARRY!!

Doesn't look to me like he has 30+ pounds to lose. His weight fluctuates a bit but he's probably been as low as 9- 10% BF and maybe 11-12% for this fight. He came in at 242. That means he has ~215 pounds of lean mass. So even if he cut down to a ripped 7-8% @ ~ 230.  I think at UFC 92 he was around 233.

How is that stupid Bill? I think stupid would be thinking 2+2 equals 22.

Some guys like myself, and Pat Barry, have enormous frames and can't just cut down.

I just don't think Pat Barry has enough fat to lose.  He is a lean, muscular 242.  How can he get down to 205 without losing all the power that makes him good?  I do not call Lopati stupid for advancing such an idea.  I just don't think his idea makes sense.  I don't think Barry could lose that much weight and still have enough to fight well.

Fedor, the Nogs, Couture, yes.  Pat Barry, no.  In my opinion.

Maybe Pat Barry will move down to bantamweight... well, he did call out Scott Jorgensen, anyway.. and Scott accepted, but it said it had to be at 205, lol.

Just posted a fun hypothetical question on twitter:
Ok: @Scottjorgensen vs @HypeOrDie who you got? Rules: 205 lbs., 3 Rds, Pat goes on the Ghandi diet, and Scott gobbles up cake. GO!!#MMA

Anyone who suggests Pat go LHW has never cut weight before and probably has no idea what it takes to cut even 10 pounds when you're already in pretty damn good shape.

The time has come for Barry to go ahead and start the transition to LHW.

Vemola has gone from a HW to a MW.

I agree with @russello cause it is his build that would make it hard for him to make LHW. I met Pat in Toronto and although he's short, he's massive and basically built like a house. If he was to make LHW he'd have to lose muscle mass. I also agree with what @russello's and @piercerdan's assessment that he'd lose his speed advantage at LHW, add to the fact that i've said he'd have to lose muscle and he's lost his advantage at LHW which would have been strength. Now as a lot of you have said he just needs to work more on his ground game, which is not as atrocious as it once was. I mean he took lavar johnson down, with a speed the lavar said he was surprised at, as well as defending multiple submission attempts against christian moorecraft, so he's improving. And as all of us Pat Barry fan's know now that he's lost he's gonna hit it even harder in the gym and make himself even better!

Also one more thing is @mcrow is correct anyone who has never had to cut weight before does not understand how hard this is, especially when your in such great shape. I understand that the argument is that as a professional fighter he should know how to pull this off, but this is a hard cut, as i said before because of the fact he'd have to cut muscle mass. I say he goes the other way gains more muscle mass and strength which will help him keep up with the bigger and stronger HW.

I think he could but it would be EXTREMELY difficult and whether he'd even be effective at that weight is another question!

I think Bendo proved you can make the weight and still keep your legs as giant as ever!

But he's a LW and Pat well....isn't!

Overall I definitely think he should at least try.. I mean I remember Dana saying once that Mir tried to see how close to 205 he could ger! Mir!!! If he can try it then Pat sure as hell can!

There would be no reason for him to do so. LHW is a tougher division than HW, and it's MUCH more populated with strong grapplers. Being a one dimensional striker does not work at LHW - Diabate is a better striker and a better grappler than Barry and he's barely middle of the pack.

No HW is where Barry needs to be, he can lost ever fight, but he will still be loved. He is exciting and comes to bring it everytime. The fans love him, Dana loves him, everyone loves him.

LHW has much better talent than HW and wouldnt be very good for Barry, in Hw there is alot of strikers which is good for Barry. In LHW theres alot of good strikers too, but theres also alot of very well rounded fighters.
