Yadong with an excellent performance, Song is only 25 years old with real KO Power and still a huge room for improvement. Song can probably put Yan's career in serious trouble (obviously losing skids against Contenders don't put his work at risk). Simon showed that he had a better chin than many thought, but Yadong's power advantage was very noticeable.
I would really like to see Yan vs. Yadong next.

I wouldn't mind that either. Just thinking from Song's perspective, Chito just lost. That makes him less attractive if he wants the fastest route to a championship fight.

Yadong wasted his opportunity to call out Yan, after the first fight the rematch against Vera would be the most democratic (in that fight Chito was not a slow starter and worked really good from the beginning).
Sean is not going to take that fight practically having the title shot assured by staying seated. Yadong took really good the shots of power punchers, O'Malley just has to wait for the winner next week to have his title fight.

gliese58i I agree. I also think that Song wouldn't mind that rematch, because a lot of people thought he lost that fight. Myself included. Though I've never watched the fight again after seeing it back then. So I might have to rewatch it.

Amettxpc I don't really blame him for not calling out Yan. It also wouldn't surprise me if Yan is going to take a break for a while. I also think O'Malley is just going to wait out the Sterling vs Cejudo fight. I just wonder what Sean (and the UFC) will do if Cejudo wins that one.

The fight that should be made next is a yadong vs vera main event later this year. Yadong already has a win against vera & vera is ranked ahead of him & coming off a loss so it makes sense to make next. Plus the first fight could have gone either way so let's do 5 to prove who's better. I'd go yadong by decision in that one

Agree, I don't see Yan fighting again in the rest of 2023 and O'Malley is going to wait for the winner of Sterling vs. Cejudo, it doesn't make sense for him to take a risky fight against a lower ranked in good moment like Song. Song vs. Vera 2 is the fight with the most sense and could perfectly take place in October or early November as a Main Event of Fight Night.
