Pretty much just loose-belt.
No Sumo, No Oil, No WWE, or various other species of ******** (oil is legit I suppose I'd just rather not watch oiled men nipple-rubbing). Catch wrestling acceptable.
Real wrestling discussion only, please.

@Swain here in Australia Greco is pretty much all you'll find if you want to train wrestling and chances are it will happen in a PCYC.

I will also include BJJ in this thread, since it's inevitable that it will find its way in here anyway. I might as well if catch wrestling is in.

Most places do Greco and Free. Free is fun but I only competed in folk. That was mid-late 80s through mid 90s. Haha. Probably why or how I started watching mma.
I started rolling over the past year but had to take some time off and just went back last week…it’s been a rough week. Lol. Sore af. Even still working out is not the same for my old ass. I’m about to go get slaughtered in an hour so. Nap time.

Yep.
Bear of a man.
In an MMA context, Greco all day long for anti-wrestling.

Personally don't watch this stuff, but respect the competitive sport and good thread so as not to plug up other semi related.
Someone needs to add a Sambo channel or thread if not present very popular in Europe apparently.

I will add Sambo stuff.
Just remember there's a difference between Sambo and combat Sambo.

Combat sambo is dark sambo lol.
Main difference is all forms of striking are allowed in combat sambo. It's also often no gi. You can throw up joint manipulation stuff in combat sambo--Heel hooks, Toe holds, rotational leg locks. Not sure about wristlocks. You can dump people on their heads in combat sambo, and can win by KO, but pinning etc is still prioritised the way it is in sport sambo. Good video about the differences here.
Although it kind of depends on the circuit. Even groin strikes are allowed in some comps as well as other forms of nasty ****.

The loop choke: Underutilised in MMA.
Seems like the kind of thing that doesn't necessarily require the Gi to pull off. I'm not a BJJ expert. I'm sure there's a reason why we don't see these things in MMA.

I think MMA fighters are spread so thin into too many disciplines that they only look and train things that are "functional" so a lot of the more nuanced or exotic techniques go unutilized. Jon Jones is the only person I know to hit a Ude gaeshi in MMA when he fought Bonner. Supposedly it's a great tachnique if you want to shred someone's shoulder or even break an arm.

@Casual probably. Even the Von Flue was pretty much unheard of in MMA until relatively recently, now it's rapidly becoming a staple. Or at least a lot more fighters are taking it out of the bag these days.
I dunno. Loop-choke looks like a no-brainer to me as a means of pass-prevention at the very least in a lot of situations, but that's because I am literally a no-brainer when it comes to applied BJJ.
I feel like if it was MMA-applicable, I'd have seen it at least attempted once, somewhere. If that has happened, I've not seen it.

I think it has a lot to do with how easy a choke is to set up in the first place. Chokes such as the Guillotine choke or Rear Naked Choke are among the most common because is there isn't always a lot transitioning needed to pull it off, sometimes the fighters just find themselves in the ideal position to pull them off even if that wasn't their original plan. Plus with MMA, you've got to watch out for your opponent's ground striking as well. The longer you spend setting up the submission, the more opportunity there is for them to catch you with something that could end the submission attempt or even the fight depending on the severity of it. Complicated submissions usually aren't worth the risk, especially when there are many simpler alternatives available.

@****les Watching videos of No-Gi variations it does seem like a no brainer. I'd love to hear someone who really knows BJJ to explain why it's not seen at all.

Nothing wrong with Khabib crying there. I e cried after wins or losses. It’s tough man. It’s emotional when you put it all out there,100% of yourself and come up short or if you feel like you had more to give but over paced yourself or just couldn’t get going. Any kinda sport you give all of yourself can not only be physically draining but so mentally exhausting as well.
Side note, one of the guys I roll with was top national sambo guy (I know US), wrestled in college and got into it all through judo. He destroys me badly. Big strong ****** too but I’m always down to take the beating. I don’t like to only train with guys I know I can take. I don’t feel I get better that way. Some of the throws and shot he teaches me are badass too. Though I do hurt physically and get mentally humbled often. Im sure it’s good for me.
