Hrgovic hype train?

Before Dubois lost to Juggernaut and Ajagba lost to Sanchez, I would've said it was between them, Yoka, Hrgovic, Babic, and Makhmudov for who most fans thought the next big breakout guy would be at heavyweight, but - they're out -- so it's down to 4 (I don't count Anderson. Might have to rank him, if he wins vs Teslenko, next week.). I've heard people say Hrgovic will likely get the winner of Ortiz vs Martin (apparently a 39.99$ PPV happening january 1st, by the way), then that winner will get a shot at the big one vs whoever. Does anyone think Hrgovic beats Aj, Wilder, Usyk, or Fury? How about Whyte, Ruiz, Joyce, ect.? I think he beats Trevor Bryan, Ruiz, Parker, Chisora, Whyte's a maybe, Usyk's a maybe, and Joyce is a strong maybe, but I don't see the hype. Then again, I thought Joshua was going to flatline Usyk, based off of Usyk's 2 pillow-punching and fairly slow-moving fights at heavyweight up until when he fought him, so what do I know? These cumbersome, slow modern heavyweights are hard to predict. I'm more hyped about Murat Gassiev moving to heavyweight. Him, Hunter, and Usyk might be able to bring back the in-shape, smaller heavyweights. After watching Winters go at Joe Parker how he did and then realizing Joe Parker had a good go with Whyte, Joshua, and Chisora, it makes me think these modern guys' raw size isn't as much of an advantage as it's sometimes made out to be.

I don't know what to think about Hrgovic. I mean I think he's good but all he's done is fight guys scared to fight him!!!  Apparently people keep turning him down but still, Eddie Hearn and Matchroom promote him so get the cheque book out and pay someone decent to fight him!!!

By the way I'd take Hunter off your list, didn't you see him go life and death with Jerry Forrest on Triller Thursday night?? He sc****d out of it with an undeserving draw!!!

I wouldn't favor Filip to win against any of the top 4 Heavyweights but I suspect they'll all retire around the same time. Usyk's made it known he wants to become undisputed and retire, doubt Fury has much in him, and both Wilder & AJ are getting up there in age. Filip can just wait them out and scoop up a vacant belt, don't know how long he can hold it though.

@Mikey

I didn't watch that Triller. I don't have anything against it, but - I haven't paid major attention to it -- even though I'm interested in the stuff they do. It's kinda like BFC. I respect barekuckle boxing, but I always miss the events and never catch up on the stuff. Last bareknuckle event I looked up had all finishes; not a single decision on the 10+ fight card and I have yet to watch one of the fights. lol. Last I actually heard of Hunter was when he drew Povetkin. I didn't even know he had a fight since then, aside from the Shawn Laughery stay busy fight just because I had checked to see why boxrec still had him ranked a few months back and saw he had a fight against some nobody. Even with that, he might still not be out of the running yet, because he has a name and the judges saved him from that loss on his record ala Canelo vs GGG 1, so they momentum largely continues with the regular fans. A lot of people still have Ruiz and Hughie in their conversations and Ruiz's only fight in 2 years was going life or death with an Arreola who was himself coming off a near 2 year layoff and loss to Kownacki; meanwhile, Hughie just sucks ass straight up. I saw some guys talking about Charr returning and would him and Trevor Bryan fight to decide who gets the WBA jobber belt and next at the WBA champ (yes, just the WBA champ. The WBA "super" belt is just the regular belt, at this point. They tried to make their belt more important than the other ones and all they did was demote the original belt to having the value of WBO oriental belts or whatever David Tua was fighting for in the 2000s instead of facing Wladimir, while the "super" belt became the regular title, but that's a whole other thing.). I'll go on record and say Trevor Bryan vs Charr for who gets to fight someone like Fury or Usyk would be about as damaging to boxing's rep as if Jake Paul and Mike Tyson fought and Jake Paul made Mike Tyson quit.

@Casual008

I heard Fury's family has been urging him to hang them up and a ton of people think he'll retire after becoming undisputed as well. I hadn't even thought about it, but I think you're right; all these guys are set up to leave in the same general period. For all we know, Wilder might bail, right now. Joshua and Fury are both 32, which isn't "old" in the modern day, but it's not young and they'll probably retire very soon, since they both can potentially branch off into other media. Usyk, even if he gets creamed vs Fury and doesn't get what he wants, probably won't be around long, simply because he's going to be 35 by the time that fight probably materializes and I can't see him being the type to fight into old age like a Holyfield or James Toney. The funny thing is, as it stands, over half the guys who'd (as of currently, according to boxrec, after Ortiz vs Martin) move up to top spots when those guys retire would be older than them! Ortiz is "42", Martin is 35, Chisora's 37, Joyce is 36, Pulev is 40 (he's realistically done with real boxing, though), and Helenius is 37...

Prehistoric Ortiz will be the new king of the heavyweights. Actually kind of wild how old Heavyweights are, even their prospects are getting up there. Filip himself is going to be 30 soon.

more prospects from the crypt

George Arias is almost 30, Dempsey Mckean is 31, Arslanbek Makhmudov is already 32, Zhan Kossobutskiy is 33, Zhilei Zhang is 38, and Mike Balogun is also 38. All considered to be on the verge of breakout and undefeated.

The joke

Joke's been made many times, by now, but could you guys imagine if JoJo ko's Haney and we get Kambosos vs JoJo for all the belts, while Haney and Teo watch on the sidelines? It's like if Brook had beaten Crawford and Garcia had beaten Spence, when they'd fought and instead of getting the big Spence vs Crawford fight (which we didn't get anyway), we got Garcia vs Brook as the big fight at 147.
