Alright folks,

As you might know I'm Tapology Boxing editor. I know the majority of you guys are here for MMA, so was I originally. But for the last year or 2 there is a little more interest in Boxing on the site.

So here's a place to talk boxing.

Most boxing purists don't hate MMA, they're just indifferent to it. Guys like Mayweather and Arum are just racist dunces.

I don't know, Iove both! It's definitely something that I see a lot of, people picking sides. There's plenty of people who like both as well tho.

Best boxing being better than best MMA??  What do you mean exactly? Highest level boxing better than highest level MMA??

Maybe you are right, just last night there was a UFC card full of highlight finishes but the 1 moment in the boxing beat all that for me!

But I could point out times where that's the opposite too I guess

@Mikey yes, for me, the best fights in Boxing are better than the best fights in MMA. If I had to pick a top 10 favourite fights of all time, the vast majority would be Boxing matches. Probably 7/10 and the top 3 would all be Boxing bouts. A lot more can happen in 12 rounds than five, and Boxing is a pure striking affair. 47 minutes and 25 minutes are not the same.

In fact I would say the last Wilder vs Fury fight was better than any MMA fight I've seen in the last three years.

The 3rd Wilder VS Fury fight was the best fight I've ever seen in any combat sport.

UFC 189, the whole main card still stands out for me as probably the best night of fights.
Actually from Matt Brown vs Tim Means as the Prelim headliner it was mad!
Almeida Pickett was wild, Knockdowns and a flying knee KO
Gunnar Nelson finished Brandon Thatch(who was a dangerous guy at the time) with a karate blitz 1-2 then RNC finish
Jeremy Stephens Denis Bermudez had a 3 round war, both bloody, both knocked down and another amazing flying knee KO finish.
Then 1 of the greatest fights ever Lawler vs Macdonald

Topped off by Mcgregor Mendes, when I admit, I was caught up with the McGregor mania!! The live walkouts were epic! The fight was great too!!!

Yup UFC 189 is my favourite MMA viewing experience!

As for boxing I'm not sure?  I was a young boy who was allowed up late to watch Nigel Benn Chris Eubank. That got me hooked at a young age!! In the early 2000s I loved Prince Naz, Lennox Lewis and Ricky Hatton vs Kosta Tszyu was amazing.  But I think Joe Calzaghe vs Jeff Lacey was my favourite., maybe! There's too many
Also Carl Froch vs Lucian Bute is right up there. Ricky Burns slapping the face of Kevin Mitchell was amazing! Froch Kessler 2, Froch Groves.Froch last minute KO vs Jermain Taylor Actually most Carl Froch fights!!!!!

I only started watching MMA around 2009, Boxing goes back to the early 90s, even the late 80s as my dad was a boxer so I have been around it forever. So I have more boxing memories.

A lot of my favourite boxing memories are tied to UK fighters.

But stand outs from World boxing are Juan Manuel Marquez flatlining Manny Pacquiao!!  Chocolatito vs Estrada last year was brilliant. Also Chocolatito winning the title back vs Yafai after being written off was brilliant!

Tito Trinidad vs Fernando Vargas is a stand out too!

I could go on, TOO many!!!  I ****** love it!!!

When I'm an old man, I'm gonna tell my grandkids about the legendary Jamie Quinn!

Random, unrelated boxing story I just remembered. My Great Uncle was a heavily religious man and also a boxing fan. When he passed away we found an old notebook he used for sermons at his local church. In one sermon he talks about faith and what it is to have faith in the lack of definitive proof. What example did he use for this? In the extract, he says that when he was a young child (he was born 1927 for context), he lived across the road from an abandoned house. He never went in there so there was no way of knowing who or what might've been inside but apparently, he was convinced that in that house lived Jesus Christ, the UK Prime Minister at the time Ramsey MacDonald and the then World Heavyweight Champion Primo Carnera. He then goes on to explain that because of how strong his faith was, there's no way of proving that those 3 didn't live together in that abandoned house. That must've been an absolute acid trip of a sermon and despite being an atheist, I wish I were around to have witnessed it!

Anyway, just a random memory I thought I'd archive on the internet before I forgot it and lost it forever lol!

Manny's back to back to back fights with the 3 Amigos is one of boxings greatest stretches a boxer has ever gone on. That stretch is a large part why Manny has a claim to being one of the p4p greatest boxers. From beating the **** out of the 3 division Champ Barrera so badly he made him look a amateur, than his epic with Marquez, and finally Morales avenging both of them all while doing it with Mexican swagger.

Marquez vs Vazquez was the first ever quadrilogy I had ever seen. Him vs Manual Lopez was another great fight. God bless the Marquez family, those two produced so many memorable moments in boxing.

Honestly, that's the only explanation of some of the stuff we cleared out after he died lol! TONS of Angel related stuff, cardboard silhouette of Marilyn Monroe, various parts of a grand piano despite not owning one, a collection of preserved dead bees and a handmade, ancient Celtic/maybe pagan themed clock were among the many, many weird **** we found lol!

@Stephen I can't really remember much of grandfather apart from one time he built me a mango picking thing. I was always climbing up into the mango tree to get the fruit and falling out of it.

It was the handle of a broom, and he'd  drilled a hole in the end with I suppose a brace and bit. Then he'd taken a wire coathanger, and bent it into the shape of a diamond with the hooked part facing outwards, and a length of the opposite end fed into the hole. Then he took an old sheer stocking and stitched it around the frame of the coathanger to make a kind of net. He made his own fishing rods out of glass too, so he bound and glassed the wire inserted into the handle.

You could use it to reach up, catch the mango on the stem with the hook, pluck it off and it would just fall into the stocking.

I swear old timey folks were way more creative. I could only dream of creating something as useful and effective as that lol. Having said that, I've never had to pick mangos either. I've picked apples, pears, strawberries and blackcurrants before at various pick your own places but never mangos. I don't know if you can grow mangos in the UK or not without a greenhouse anyway.

@Stephen I think they had to be. They had to live through wars and depressions. Necessity is the mother of invention.

At least in Australia, if you were poor you had to try and live off the land a little, and you could do it back then. Not anymore. Everythings been pillaged.

That makes sense. I guess there's some truth to the hard times make tough people, tough people make easy times, easy times make soft people, soft people make hard times memes.
