Ryan Bader is a really good fighter but this is a big step up.. Jackson won't have much trouble stuffing the takedown and getting a 30-27 decision, That being said KICK HIS ASS BADER!!

Bader may not want to trade and make it an all out wrestling match.

Jackson has really good TDD and as good as Bader's wrestling is, I can't see him getting Jackson on the ground. His striking is meh as well (granted I didn't see his match against Brilz but I haven't heard he'd looked improved and it seem to quick to see if that was the case).

Unless Rampage shows up not in shape or not motivated, Bader has an uphill battle and I can't see him have much an advantage over Rampage. I see Bader eventually getting worn down and then KO'd in the 3rd round.

Yeah Bader is in trouble Rampage is going to be super motivated for this fight, he really wanted the chance to fight in front of the Japan fans.

I'm shocked the UFC is giving Bader this fight.... I don't think he's ready for Rampage yet, and a short decisive win over a mid-tier fighter with a susceptable chin just doesn't put him in Rampages league yet. I hope Bader proves me wrong, but i think he gets dominated in this fight.

Never been impressed with Bader, rampage has always had potential but lately doesnt pull the trigger so who knows but if rampage actually decides to be a fighter he wins this easy.

I don't think bader has the wrestling to take a hold rampage down (see hamill/rashad fights). He has a big right hand but rampages boxing has looked impressive and he has a helluva chin. Rampage by late stoppage or decision.

@SeverusRap1st Nope ^_^ Hence why I said I didn't think Bader would get Rampage to the ground. It's just well known that Rampage prefers to strike then go for takedowns.

Bader could get the submission if he manages to take Rampage down. Other than Rampage's lack of jiu jitsu, his striking is powerful, and his TDD is great. I'll be slightly pulling for Bader, but Rampage should take this one.

What a stupid fight made by Dana. Bader beats "Brittle" Jason Brilz and that sets him up to face the last no. 1 contender? Where's the logic in that?

Joe Silva doesn't make the big fights. He probably makes recommendations, but almost certainly Dana/Lorenzo helped decide to do Bader vs Jackson.

But isn't he a matchmaker? What's the point in having him if he doesn't make the fights? .. Just curious.

@thiago Yes Joe Silva and Sean Shelby are technically the matchmakers (with Shelby doing the 135/145 divisions plus Strikeforce, I believe).  But most of the fights that they need to put together have no marketing/promotional implications. From a pure sporting perspective, in testing and building fighters, and keeping the divisions mixed up and exciting, that's where Silva/Shelby do their thing.

However any fight that has business/promotional implications - a title fight or a co-main event that will be important to the marketing of a card - is where the bosses are going to step in and make judgement calls on what they want to see happen. Obviously they work with the matchmakers, because the matchmakers are good at what they do, but the final call is going to be made by Dana or Lorenzo, or perhaps even with veto powers by the guys at FOX or FX moving forward.

There's no official policy on this that I'm reading from... it's just my assumptions based on watching the UFC operate all these years. But I think it's a pretty safe assumption.
