Interesting. Still wouldn't mind seeing Mousasi vs Machida at some point.

Mikey I don't think this is that bad really. There's not much chance of Lyoto getting the belt at the UFC but on the right night he could snatch the crown at Bellator.

While Machida is getting up in years, this is an interesting signing for Bellator as it adds depth to their divisions. The only thing I wonder is how much did signing Machida away from the UFC cost them because, from what it sounds like from all rumors, Bellator seems to be hemorrhaging money under Coker and Viacom may be thinking about pulling out if things don't turn around. Plus, while I get having ex UFC names adds legitimacy, wouldn't it be best for Bellator to get younger guys who can be the faces of the future similar with their mentality with the Fab 5 rather than try to bring on faces of the past and present?

@Green I hadn't heard those rumors but I won't be surprised if they turn out to be true. The fact that the legends in Bellator all seem happy tells me that they're being paid handsomely. Which is great, but not ideal as a business model.
Machida is long in the tooth but he's still a fair way of the shopworn status of Fedor, Wandy etc. It's a reasonable signing.
Viacom needs to decide what it want Bellator to be; a B-Grade promotion that books nostalgia bouts that is never going to be competitive with the UFC, or a legitimate promotion that expands the roster largely with unknown talent and builds them into stars. Less Sonnens, Silvas and Jacksons and more Picos and MVPs.
I'm not saying they should do away with the legends league, but that should really be an accompaniment to a young, dynamic roster. Blowing the bindle on Fedor fights is basically just eating the seed corn IMO.

Though those are all fun fights, they don't have the name value. Manhoef has a name, but not one associated with being a top level MMA fighter. I think fights like these will only be on the agenda if Machida starts losing badly. There going to want to put him against name guys like rampage, wanderlei, Sonnon ect. All of which I am very open too.
Part of me wishes Franklin would come out for one more. Dude is way better shape then pretty much any of these guys in the legends league.

yea because everyone in bellator fights at there weight class...........common it all about a cash grab. There not going to throw him at nobodies, that not the point of purchasing him.

- MassaBruce
Manhoef, Lovato Jr and Kato are nobodies? The guys you mentioned are HW's. Fedor? lmfao.

In comparison to Fedor, Wanderlei, Ramapge and Sonnen they are. Not sure you are grasping why they purchased Machida. Your insistence about weight classes, makes me think you don't understand what Bellator is doing. They don't give a **** that Machida is a middle weight, it all about his name value. In fact the first dam thing out of Coker mouth is that he interested in possibly doing Machida vs Fedor. Only person they might throw him at in middle weight is the winner of mousasi vs Rory. Other then that, it almost a given they are going to put him in either a LHW or HW match up against another legend with real name value.

Ah I didn't realize Lyoto said he was open to both weight-classes.

We will see, but outside of Musasasi or rory at middle weight, I think the chance of machdia fighting anyone else at that weight class is just not going to happen unless sonnen was willing to drop back down. Otherwise it almost a given he will fight at LHW or HW. Machida has expressed desire to fight big names. Coker has already shown he looking for big name fights for Machida. This is about them making money, it as simple as that.

so Basically Machida came to Bellator to fight fat, washed up has-beens. Got it. How delightful...

Yup he came to fight people with big name value. Not sure what surprising about that. He was asking for big names this entire year while with the UFC. He was calling out bisping several times. He wanted vitor ect. Then coker been all about having big name vs big name match ups since he been at bellator. It like you been living under a rock or something. Honestly it felt to me at least that this was super obvious.

Bellators numbers have been dropping. those "names" are losing value by the day. You only pick UFC fights and are accusing me of being under a rock? Come on kid. It took me a week to pass your 1 stripe.

Also those washed up has been'swould likely beat guys like Kato into the ground. Just like when Tito destroyed Schlemenko. Which to this day I still find hilarious how many people thought Tito would lose, when it was so obvious Tito would smash him.
