Interesting fight. Holm's not ready though.

Is this fight better than Rousey/Tate 3?

In a tiny division, Holm hasn't fought anyone in the top 10.

Pennington was 16th
Renau was 13th

According to Wikipedia,  there are 24 fighters in WBW excluding Rousey and Holm.

Holm hasn't had a win vs anyone in the top 50% of her division.

Now to hope UFC 195 will also host Tate vs Cyborg at 140.

@skelli, Holly's 34 has years of combat experience under her belt and already has more high level fights than Ronda did when she first fought for the title.

If she's not ready now, she never will be.

If anyone does have the blueprint for beating Ronda it's her. Not saying she will (though I hope she will), but I don't think there's any reason to postpone it anymore.

Holly's a great athlete, she's intelligent, her striking is leaps and bounds above Ronda's and Ronda's grappling's leaps and bounds above any other female in MMA. Holly won't get good enough a grappler to stop Ronda from taking her down from the clinch within the next 2-3 anyway (or ever for that), her only chance of keeping this fight in her realm will be using tools she already has in bunches (footwork, distance management, short non-committal strikes like hard jabs and kicks every time Ronda comes in, etc). If they don't do the job now, you can be sure she's not going to get good enough to do it when she's 36-37. The way she beats Ronda (if ever) isn't by getting good enough at grappling to stop her from taking her down, it's by going full Alexander Gustaffson on Ronda, and those are tools she already has. Ronda has an easier time taking other chicks down because they're so petrified of her they swing like mad-women looking for one-punch KOs (which most of them don't have in their arsenal), Holly won't do that.

If the division were a little deeper or less cleaned out, I'd say sure, lets test her against a top 10 fighter and then fight for the belt, but I don't see any difference between Ronda beating Meisha up for the 3rd time and Holly getting her first crack a little "too soon".

Also, I think that stylistically, Holly is more of a threat to Ronda than Miesha because even with Miesha's "improved striking" (it's stil awful), not sure it's better than Ronda's and Ronda has more power. Her strong suit is grappling and she can't grapple with Ronda, while as Holly, if she manages to stay there, will completely dominate one area of the fight, so there's that.

I would love to see Ronda try and fight Holly like she did Betche. It would be funny. She won't though because she's not stupid and Holly won't say anything about suicide, but it would be funny if she did.

I'll just repost my comment I made in the UFC 193.

I guess the UFC thinks they could sell a predictable fight that no one has seen yet than a predictable fight we have seen twice already.

I would honestly rather see Rousey/Tate III than this fight. Not that the outcome would make a difference, but this fight may last a couple of minutes. At least with Tate, there is a good chance of use seeing more than a quarter of a round.

Holm just doesn't comprehend what she is getting into and not nearly ready enough to be in the same cage as Ronda.

@terrencetj, Ronda will never fight at 140. If we ever see that fight, Cyborg will have to somehow make 135. I don't understand how she isn't motivated to make that happen.

I'm with benjaminbrandt on this. This basically an admission that the UFC will continue to just feed people to Ronda and cash in over and over rather than build any kind of legitimate challenger. Was I greatly excited for Ronda-Tate 3? No. But is Tate the legitimate number 1 contender? Absolutely.

One last thing ... the reason Miesha's not getting the fight even though she was announced as next in line for the title hasn't been given yet.

I think she found out she's pregnant (just a hunch, because if it were an injury it would've been reported).

@Griffy,

"I don't understand how she isn't motivated to make that happen"

Because the only way she makes 135 is if she stops roiding, loses some muscle-mass and with that her only advantage in a fight with Ronda.

She knows why she's so far ahead of the rest of the women she fights and I think she lacks the self-confidence to find out how good a fighter she is without it. I see many insecurities in her which she can hide behind a hulkish physique, I don't think she wants them to get exposed.

EDIT:: Of course non of this is "scientific", just my couch-psychologist opinion.

What a waste of my time with this fight.

Tate is the #1 contender while Holm is the #15 contender.
