Plus, the way I look at it, if you draw with a guy who was on the juice, that should count as a win for you.

Better to not have a title fight then to have a bogus one. He is also 5-7-1 in his last 13. Yeah HWT is weak, but has Hunt beat a contender himself? Roy I guess, but other than that nobody

But Cormier dropped weight, Cain has been injured for a year, Overeem keeps getting knocked out, JDS will die if he gets another title shot and Miocic already has a big fight scheduled. Hunt makes more sense than Bigfoot, Barnett, Mir or Browne. Face reality, it's a great fight but Hunt in a Interim title fight tells you how bad HW MMA is.

I don't see this being close. I think Werdum dominates everywhere. Yes. Even the feet. Werdum has smart striking. Is that to say he is better than Hunt there? No. But instead of plotting forward, which is what Hunt does most of the time, Werdum picks his shots quite well. His muay thai has improved so much over the last few years. Hunt is good at countering, but if Werdum can use his reach he will negate any potential counters from Hunt.

I believe there is an altitude difference in Mexico, so as long as Werdum can avoid something big while Hunt is fresh, I think he takes this with little-to-no trouble. I don't even look at this as a striker vs. grappler matchup. This is a striker vs. a mixed martial artist. Hunt is good. I'm happy for him and his recent "resurgence", but I don't expect him to win this fight.

Too bad about Cain, but I think they should have made JDS vs Werdum II for the interim title.
Love this fight though, gotta go with Werdum by submission in the later rounds.

You would seriously want to risk having JDS-Cain IV without Cain having fought anyone else in the meantime? Plus JDS hasn't fought since losing to Cain either.

Sadly, this is a more interesting fight for me. :/ Crazy to think the UFC will have a 40 year old interim heavyweight champion with an 11-8-1 record in 2014.

For some reason this fight is more exciting to me as well. It seems like i have to keep seeing Werdum dominate fights in order to believe he'll give Cain a challenge (when he's healthy).

It's definitely more intriguing because IMO the chance of Hunt upsetting Werdum is higher than the chance of Werdum upsetting Cain.

@mikeyg, if they'd have made JDS and Werdum fight for the interim title, chances are they'd have to make JDS/Cain IV when he came back.

Are we really interested in that fight right now?

Also, isn't JDS already signed to fight Miocic?

I love Hunt and this fight, but when you have a majority of PPV Main Events get cancelled, it's such a huge concern.

169, 175, 176, 177, 178, 180, 181

7/13 PPVs all had their main-events changed in some way. Sometimes it works out well, just not a great statistic.

As much as I'd love to see Hunt win, I feel like this is Werdum's fight to lose.  He should be able to get the early finish.  Kind of surprised to see the percentages so close, although it's still too early to tell how this fight is going to be picked.

If Werdum plays it smart he should have no problem winning this fight, he is far more athletic, younger, has very good striking, has a great grappling game and he is a smart fighter, on the other hand Hunt is a survivor and is a tough fighter to dominate and controll for 3 much less 5 rounds. Werdum should go for the Cain gameplan, doing his best to tire him early, grappling with him so he can keep him in check. Werdum has already given and "advantage" when Hunt took the fight with 3 week notice, he pretty much will be spending those three weeks fasting to make wieght,  a 5 round fight will be brutal for him, he may come out fast and strong trying to take Werdum's head on the first, it's Werdum's job to make this fight as tiring and long as he can.
