I'm working on a project about indie music in the early 1990's and I'm just curious what people's favorite "Seattle"-area band was. Here's some that are generally considered...
Nirvana, Mudhoney, Pearl Jam, The Gits, 7 Year *****, Queensrche, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, The Melvins, Gruntruck, Skin Yard, Green River, Mother Love Bone, Temple of the Dog, TAD, Screaming Trees, The U-Men, The Presidents of the United States of America, Zeke, Blood Circus, Hammerbox, The Go! Team, Love Battery, Mono Men, My Sister's Machine, Truly, Willard, Candlebox, The Posies, The Walkabouts, Gas Huffer, The Fartz, Fastbacks, Ten Minute Warning, Supersuck, Sleater-Kinney, Seaweed, Fugazi...(Later Years) Modest Mouse, Death Cab for Cutie, Harvey Danger, Fleet Foxes, Band of Horses, Minus the Bear, Pedro the Lion,

I think as far as album sales and popularity it's a toss up between Soundgarden and Nirvana. When it comes to longevity and consistency it's a toss up between Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam. With that in mind, the big 4 easily take the cake there.
Another Seattle band that really left a mark in the scene was Sonic Youth. I was never a big fan, but they did leave a mark.
