I'm surprised there wasn't a baseball thread going, yet... so... here it is!

I normally don't talk too much baseball because I'm a Royals fan, haha.. but they have a chance for the playoffs! 8 games left, and they are 3 games behind. They are playing the Texas Rangers tonight and tomorrow (and defeated them yesterday). The Rangers are 2 games ahead of the Royals and in the wild card race as well. Beating them today and tomorrow would tie them up with them, then give them 6 games against the last place White Sox. It's going to be a close race in the American League.

@yorma I think a lot of them have some sort of meaning, I'm not sure.

The Tigers are my team, they're apparently named after a military group in Detroit that fought in the Civil War.

The A's stand for different teams such as the Athletics which is one of the oldest clubs in the MLB. Angels are the ones with the halos, Braves are the A with the tomahawk for the Atlanta Braves and the other A is for the Arizona Diamondbacks former logo, now they use the D in the top left corner. They rays are the same team just changed logos. There are three bird teams, St Louis Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays, and the Baltimore Orioles. I don't know the story behind each teams name except the Mets, which isfor the Metropolitan area and also replaced the Giants and Dodgers as the departed to California.

I only watch baseball because I grew up playing it and watching it, so it stuck with me. Once you play it for some time and are into it's okay to watch on TV, but fantastic live. It's a somewhat complicated game as opposed to other sports, but is a game where failing 7 out of 10 times makes you great.

That logo image you posted is all messed up, yorma haha.

There's 2 Diamondback logos, 2 Astros logos and the Montreal Expos logo is on there. The Expos turned into the Washington Nationals 10 years ago.

Also I have no idea whose logo is in the 2nd row, 3rd column

@Amp- It's the Brewers before their logo change.

@Yorma- It's not like I watch it a lot, I just follow my team for most of the year and watch when my favorite players a re pitching. I'm a connoisseur of mean things other than baseball now. Since is started watching MMA, most things have taken a back seat to it, but I used to be an absolute nut about Baseball.

That's the old Brewers logo, why they changed from such a baller logo to a meh cliche one is beyond me. Half of those are pretty old though.

As far as why I like baseball so much, a lot of it has to do with it being the first sport I played (started at 4), watched, and played the longest. I like the pace of the games, makes it easy to put on a game I don't care about much while I'm at work, doing homework, etc and still get things done and I will mostly watch if it's a player I like or am interested in or if a scoring opportunity is present. If it's a game I particularly care about such as a Giants game then I will watch it more closely, a lot more goes on than people think.

I didn't get to watch as much baseball last year as I usually do due to being busy, mostly only watched MLB but I also usually watch the Korean league (KBO, stream every game on Youtube) and Japan's league (NPB, some teams stream on UStream, others got to search around for). Once this semester is over and I don't have to be up and doing things every morning I will be watching all 3 a lot.

Definitely the sport I follow the most after MMA

so we're tellin our baseball stories eh .

Baseball was also the first sport i played started when i was 5 . i was offered to play for the Canadian Traveling team when i was younger but i freaked out had a panic attack and backed out . to this day it's the biggest regret of my life ! growing up we had TBS and they played all the Braves games on there so they became my favorite team  . i'll watch any game tho just love the sport only team i dislike for baseball is the Yankees . and like Live said i also like the pace of the game  i like that i can leave for a few minutes and not really miss much.

my favorite player of all time is Chipper Jones . thinking of going to check out a Jays game this year . a buddy of mine goes to a few a year .i couldn't go last year but this year i want to . we get all the Jays games on tv here so they've became my second favorite over the years so it would be neat to see Live .

If I'm gonna follow baseball this year, it's gonna be after the NBA finals, but still plenty of time to get into it.

I'll try to catch a few Giants games. Baseball is the only sport where my favorite player isn't on my favorite team. I grew up loving Albert Pujols and still do. But from what I've heard, he's been on the decline. And quickly too.

Yeah he's been on a steady decline for a few years and then just completely fell off last year, a lot of it is injuries but he also just isn't the same player he was before

10 year $292,000,000 for Miguel Cabrera, turning 31 in 2 weeks.  AAV is $29.2 mil.  Many agree that 1 Win Above Replacement (WAR) is worth around $5 mil, Cabrera has averaged 5.2 WAR from age 21-31 making him worth $26 mil per year on average to date.  The last two MVP years being worth $34 mil & $38 mil.  But even with those his 10 year average is worth $26 mil from age 21-31.  Signing him to a $29.2 AAV contract from age 31-41 means he'd actually have to get better the next 10 by putting out a 6 WAR average until he's 41.  No one gets better at 31-41 than 21-31 by almost a full WAR per year when we're talking about a league MVP type player.  He may earn it for the first half of the contract but no way he puts up 58.5 WAR over the next 10 years when he put up 54.2 including 2 AL MVP's his first 10.  Tigers should've done a 6-8 year, not 10 year with 2 vesting years leaving the possibility it's for 12 years.

You want someone deserving of $30 mil per year for the next 10 years, that's Mike Trout.  His last two seasons value at $50 & $52 mil.  Not bad for making $1 mil each year.  He'll outperform his new 6 year $144.5 mil contract within 3 years.  He already outperformed his last two years while on the rookie scale by over $100,000,000.  By 30 he may outperform the quarter mil he'll have made by over a quarter mil more.  Not a bad catch for the Angels.

Yeah, it's crazy to me that teams are still giving 10 year deals to 30 year olds. If you want to give a guy a 10 year deal, give it to Harper or Trout. A guy that is about to come into his prime, not a guy who is in the middle or on the back side of it. Granted, Miggy is a monster, but how many more years will he hit at this level?
