Chiesa's stand-up sucks so he's in trouble if he can't get Masvidal down...but for some reason Chiesa always gets it down and he always locks in some strong subs.

I don't know about this one ... Chiesa has a way of always managing to initiate the clinch and get his guy down and I don't think Masvidal's got good enough TDD or strength to stop it.
He may light Maverick up for a bit, but I think eventually Chiesa will get it down and pull off the sub.

^ Melendez didn't finish him because it was an all-stand up fight and Masvidal has sick striking and an iron chin. Chiesa has long arms and a very strong squeeze, Jorge has a few losses by choke, and Mike knows how to use his strengths...he isn't gonna try to stand with Jorge.

The last time Masvidal got subbed was 4 years ago by Imada with an inverted triangle. He's gotten way better since then and Chiesa will have a lot of trouble getting it to the ground let alone subbing him.

Decision
Masvidal was beating Imada before he pulled off the inverted triangle choke and Masvidal was close to winning a decision. Imada just got lucky and caught Masvidal with an inverted triangle choke in a grappling scramble exchange while Masvidal was getting up.
Masvidal's ground game is no joke despite him not using frequently since he likes to rely mostly on his stand up which is boxing oriented mostly.
Masvidal is a huge step up for Chiesa in competition and Masvidal should be a big favorite in this fight.

Interesting fight. This is the classic "Striker vs. Grapper" style of matchup that Joe Silva always loves to schedule. Granted, I'm sure Masvidal's got a decent ground game himself, and he does have some experience against higher leveled competition (Joe Lauzon, who he beat. Paul Daley, who fights in a bigger weight class than Masvidal fights in now. And Gilbert Melendez, who is a top 10 Lightweight).
I like Chiesa, his ground game is excellent, and he's got a TON of heart, but I'm afraid that won't matter much in this fight. Not sure if Masvidal will stop him or not, but I think he wins this one.
