1. Bob Sapp? He never approached "greatness." He was a big dude, most likely juiced, there is a difference.

2. Hominick fought an ill Aldo, otherwise he wouldn't have made round four.

3. Chael Sonnen was never a contender, that's why he started getting mouthy. I was watching that guy fight over a decade ago and I never heard him speak after a fight or give an interview. Then he gets on the juice and suddenly has a mouth for everyone. Please don't forget that he only ever got to fight Anderson because he took steroids to get through competition he probably would have lost to and then flapped his gums so that fans would want to see Silva's retribution.

4. Mark Kerr was another roider so you can't justify ever calling him great; there is no greatness in cheating.

I wonder though if perhaps we are mistaking aging for falling from greatness. It's natural to slow down, esp. after a lot of hardship on the body.

I would submit Brandon Vera to the list though since he was once talking about holding two belts.

Sapp was never a great fighter, but he was on his way to becoming a dominant fighter.

He almost killed Big Nog with a powerbomb in PRIDE and he also beat Ernesto Hoost twice in K-1.

Back then, people thought Sapp was legit and the next big heavyweight star to breakout of PRIDE.

Sapp never achieved greatness? Like Grizzly said he KO'd one of the greatest kickboxers of all time twice, nearly killed Nog, and was one of the most popular fighters of all time in Japan.

Say what you will about roids but Kerr had the potential to be the GOAT HW, he killed his body though through the roids and painkillers.

Are we sure he beat Hoost twice, or did Hoost wreck him in the rematch? I seem to recall it happening the latter way.

It's kind of crazy to look at Ricco Rodriguez' record and see that there was a time when he fought Buentello, Arlovski, Williams, Monson, TK, and Couture in a row and finished every one of them.

Why hasn't Sakuraba been mentioned yet?  The reason for the fall was that he obviously took too much abuse at the hands of larger fighters, but it was a fall nonetheless.

Filho is a good one. His last fight with David Branch was absolutely horrible. I'm going with Pulver. He went from beating BJ Penn to losing to regional circuit fighters.

I watched The Striking Truth documentary recently and due to this I can't help but mention David Loiseau. He went from being the next big thing at middleweight and losing a title shot to Rich Franklin to basically nothing.
