Problem for Jake is the fact he can't take down Woodley and as we've seen before Jake Shields can get knocked out by very athletic heavy handed wrestlers who defend his takedowns.

Shields is a MMA vet who has fought the best, and beat the best. Has the best ground control and one of the best submission games in the welter weight division. He is able to get fights to the ground, but he doesn’t set up his shots is vulnerable for a knee or an uppercut when is coming in. He’s striking is too stiff, and he looks very robotic with no head movement or rhythm. But Jake Shields knows how to get the job done. He’s been able to take down an Olympic wrestler (Hendo), and beat knock out artist (Lawler and Daley). He has not looked very impressive in the UFC and it really makes me think he’s best days are behind him. He doesn’t seem the same since his father (also his corner man, manager) passed away. Woodley is a division I wrestler with speed, strength, and athleticism on his side. I believe is evolving into a well rounded mma fighter. He showed his evolution in his KO of Hieron, but then again Hieron doesn’t have the best chin. Maybe I’m jumping on the Woodley bandwagon too early, but I’m going with Woodley via KO 1st rd.

Jake just got the split decision. It could have easily gone the other way. It didn't prove much to me. It was pretty much a draw.

Jake survived some wicket leg kicks and a spinning back fist.

I'm pleased they gave it to Jake, but it won't give him that much bounce, if any. I feel bad for Woodley. He fought well. This will not drop him down. Jake needs to hone his skills. His salary will hurt him and he needs to make more of a dramatic impact. He couldn't drag Woodley down, but Woodley couldn't knock him down either. Pretty much a drawn affair.

Shields didn't do anything in this fight, his whole game plan looked like it was just not to lose. That being said though T Wood could of and should of done alot more.

I really can't stand Shields. Not because he's a boring wrestler(it doesn't help though), but he looks terrible in his wins anymore. Woodley and Akiyama both stuffed his takedowns like crazy but lost by being super tentative and letting him press the pace. He has nothing in the standup and just wall and stalls. That and he joined in the Cesar Gracie camp's whiny conspiracy theories by claiming GSP's hand wraps looked suspicious before the Diaz fight.

Jake Shields wants a top 5 guy because of this. I find that absolutely hilarious. Since coming to the UFC he has been so ... not good.

He debuts against Kampmann and got extremely lucky to get that decision. Then he fought GSP and gave him a surprisingly good fight (I say that because when this fight got announced I thought GSP would absolutely destroy him, yet Shields was actually landing good shots which is shocking considering how terrible his standup is). Since then he has been knocked out, gifted a decision, and given 2 terrible fights enroute to decision wins.. How the **** can he ask for a top 5 guy?

All his official UFC wins have been supbar performances. Even against Akiyama, it wasn't anything to ride home about because he got flipped on his ass a few times.

He doesn't deserve a top 10 opponent. Give him Mike Pyle. Would give Pyle a big name, and Shields would fight someone who would bring it.

It's actually almost hard to believe at one point Shilelds fought Charuto, Pyle, Thompson, Daley and Lawler in a row and finished all of them.
