I hope she doesnt go to Invicta and dirty up that Org. Plus with Marloes dropping to 135 the only fights shes got over there are Gomes and Budd.

It a lot easier for her if she got off the roids which clearly she does not want to do. If you think she naturally got up to 170 you are crazy.

If she's still on the juice, Invicta won't stand for it. They are at a crossroads. They can either rival the UFC in WMMA or become a fringe promotion.

So far, Shannon Knapp doesn't seem like she would stand for steroid use.

Since you say that @Bill maybe Cyborg should prove she is a real fighter and fight Ronda at 135.

Way I look at it is. Ronda is champ. Cyborg USED to be champ but disgraced herself by using steroids. Ronda makes the rules.

For example, say Rashad calls out Anderson. He has no right to ask for the fight at 205. Same goes for Cyborg.

@Bill,

Why should the champion have to move up past her natural weight class to fight a fighter who not champion, who was caught cheating, and who could fight at her weight class but is not willing to get off the juice.

Come on man, ****ting on Ronda for Cyborg ducking her is ridiculous.

@Benjamin Uh...no. Now you're just taking what I'm saying out of context. I do think there should be weight classes, but if you're only going to bother to introduce one weight class, it should be a higher weight class because you want a larger talent pool. I know the UFC doesn't give a crap about WMMA and they are just using Rousey, but it's a stupid way to build contenders. 135 has 5-8 fighters people know of. Rousey's already beat half of them. At 145 there would be 3-5 more that people knew of that Rousey could finish off. I'm not saying Cyborg is in the right, she's not. She shouldn't have taken steroids. I'm saying the UFC is in the wrong because they're lowering the ceiling for Rousey. I believe Rousey would beat Cyborg regardless of how drained Cyborg is, so Rousey being unwilling to budge and the UFC caving to only showcase the 135 class is hurting Rousey, the UFC's moneymaking potential, and potential growth of the WMMA scene.

Just let her go and stop this debate of them fighting. It is getting Tito more time in the spotlight. I hope she goes to invicta and wrecks shop though. Would like to see her try overtime to make 135 lbs., but if not she will have a good home with Invicta.

Rousey has only beat 2 people at 135 she has plenty of people she can fight at 135

Connen
Zingano
McMann
Davis
Baszler
Carmouche
Nunes
Kedzie

Guess who she has to fight at 145

Gomez
Budd
Rothenhausler  who hasnt been tested yet
Cyborg
Amanda Lucas   who hasnt been tested yet
Elaina Maxwell
Dudieva            who hasnt been tested yet

The top two on that list she already beat     145 is not deep at all  if UFC wanted to add another womens divison it would be 125

I have addressed this issue in the past, but no one here remembers my scholarly posts.

When you build a women's component, there should not be divisions in the earliest stages.  There should be open competition, until there are more people to form divisions.

To start off with one division, narrowly defined, is the best sure-fire way to kill this before it starts.

When the UFC started in 1993, there were no divisions, and It must evolve the same for women in terms of not having divisions yet.  That will come soon, as more women take up the training.

To insist the there is only one narrowly defined weight class, and it has one champion, and that champion cannot fight someone 10 pounds over her weight is not only unnecessary, but the most effecient way I can think of to ****** and inhibit the natural evolution of the women's component.

And oh, by the way, if the insults continue, I will not bother to even read the posts.  This started fine, and then the insults started.  Same old thing.  Either keep it positive or talk to yourselves.  I won't respond.

**** it, if she wants out of her Zuffa contract, let her ass go. People need to understand that the UFC does not need Cyborg. Let her go to Invicta and beat up some no names. Ronda is the champion, and the new face of WMMA. So Dana is gonna cater to her. 2 things can happen. 1) Let her out of her contract, and be done with it. 2) Get off the roids, drop down to 135, and lets get this money. This is turning into the Pacman vs Money fight.

@condit  It hasn't gotten there so far.  But benjaminbrandt is mistaking ridicule for good-natured ribbing.  If my finger is on the trigger, there are reasons.

Listen, guys.  This is sports chat.  There is no reason not to engage in friendly discussion.  But the days when I was meek are over.  Long gone.  Let's keep it civil and there will be no problems.

@Condit  What is the argument against starting the women off as an open competition and let the divisions develop in a natural way as more women come in?  After all, that is how the men evolved.  If anyone remembers how MMA evolved.

When the men were at the women's stage of development, people like Royce Gracie and Randy Couture fought men WAY over their weights.  And the starling thing is that they won!

With so few women now in the UFC, I see no logical, rational basis for establishing divisions at this early stage.

To let a 135 lb. women fight a 145 lb. one is not that bad.  It's not a stretch.  The big thing we need now, if we really want the women to succeed is flexibility.  FLEXIBILITY.  FLEXIBILITY IS GOOD, rigidity is not.

Let's not stifle the women before they can even get in gear.  Let's let them build up some momentum before we start to apply the guidelines that will come in time.

The argument against having "open" weight competition is that mma weight classes are set by athletic commission regulation. There can be exceptions for catch weights subject to commission review and approval, but the days of open weight fighting are long gone for any organization that isn't holding mma events on tribal land.

@Blackwork  OK.  That is a good argument.  The sanctioning committees won't allow it.  Fine.  The open competition of how MMA started was before they got sanctioned.

But if that is the case, can there be a bigger division for women to start off with?  Like 135 -155?
Would the sanctioning committee understand that there are very few women in MMA at this time?

Bill - fighters cut weight, as you know. There have been reports that Cyborg cuts from 170 to 145. Not sure how much she puts on after weigh-ins, but let's assume it's 10lbs (not sure how much water weight a woman can cut compared to a man). If you build that into your example, you could have legit 135s on fight night fighting women who weigh 165lbs on fight night, a 30lb difference in weight.

Now, I a sure there are some crazy night-of-fight weight differences for men, but a 30lb difference for women just seems crazy to me.

@Bill,

Please just stop playing the victim card over and over. It tiresome. You do it constantly in many different threads and I for one am simply tired of it. You need to get thicker skin or stop posting if it bothers you so. But constantly whining about it does not improve anything, it just makes you annoying.

And really, Cyborg is a cheater. She gets no special concessions for weight. The muscle difference between her and Hiroko Yamanaka was just flat out shameful given Cyborg tested hot for a PED. It's dangerous and I don't want to see it. She can go fight men in Brazil for all I care. I am glad Rousey isn't giving an inch (or pound) on this.
