Thought this would be a great forum to talk and spread and receive knowledge on international Brazilian Jui Jitsu.

For me, Brazilian Jui Jitsu has had an unexplainable positive impact on my life. Use this thread to post videos, stories or any questions you have about Jui Jitsu. For starters watch this excellent documentary on Alliance BJJ NYC founder Fabio Clemente. Rolled up is a great show. Its Budo Jake going around the legendary gymds around the world and exploring the culture of the particular BJJ in that area.

bit of thread necromancy here,

Iv now joined the ranks of tapology folk who don a gi and roll around on the floor.

Joined a small local club back in early febuary, 2 months in Iv got to say Im really really enjoying it. Last few weeks works been such that Iv been able to make both mondays and wednesdays- kind of making the most of it while I can before festival season gets underway and a lot of mondays I may still be on festival sites at the other end of the country.
Iv reached a quite nice point where with several of the guys in the class, whove had 6months to a years head start in training on me, their skill advantage works out about equal to my strength advantage so the rolling ends up competitive and fun for all.
Last night for the first time I rolled with a purple belt, who is also bigger and stronger than me- needless to say I learnt several new ways my arse can be handed to me.


One thing I am especially liking about it is the attitude that your not loosing your learning. The only previous sport Iv played volentarily is rugby, and if we lost Id feel ****. But with BJJ, whilst Iv not been in competition yet, I find it really really cool that in class you'll tap someone when rolling and they dont see that tap as "I lost, im ****" or "I lost, I need to beat him back" they'll quite often say "that **** was really cool, can you show me how you just choked me"... A few weeks ago I was rolling with a blue belt with 3 stripes, he's been doing it about 4 years I think, and I just couldnt keep him in my guard, he'd pass like it was nothing- the week later Id incorportated the main way he was dominating me into my own game. Its like everyone is winning.

BJJ is the like the special olympics, because in the end, everyone is winning.

Since i saw this thread get bumped, i might as well share that i should be receiving my blue belt this or next saturday. It's long overdue, but better late than never right?

Well as some people know on here I started a new job 2 months ago about an hour south of where I live and the commute really made making it to the BJJ gym I was going to problematic...about 3 weeks ago I started calling places closer to the new job to set up a trial I finally got my trial in last Friday night and got my first official class in tonight and have really missed it...now it's time to finish up my white belt and get my blue in the next couple months 

BJJ is incredible

So what gyms/teams do my fellow tapology members train at?

It's Nikolas. No C. It actually drives me crazy haha. Nick is english - Nik is German. But, on to more important issues. You should consider starting BJJ.

My brother spells it Nicolas, no K. I think because he (like me) was before in Colombia and that's how they spell it here. I have been for a while. I've just also been broke. I will though. Scouts' honor.

I hear you. I'm super broke. I can barely afford BJJ, but in all honesty, its worth the hassel

That was me 2 months ago during wrestling season. I was just super tired and burnt out from wrestling and only went to BJJ like once every 3 weeks... Feels good to be back
