I am surprised that no one has started this thread yet.

I know this is an MMA website but I bet that there are some Boxing Fans out there.

I just love the sport of fighting in general and I have been raised by boxing.

So in this Thread we can discuss the "Sweet Science"

such as
Past Fights
Upcoming Events
Favorite Fighters
and Historical Figures in the Sport

Because like MMA in the US, Boxing started out illegal. But where it took MMA less than 25 years to gain the General populations approval, It took boxing over 100 years.

Discuss and have fun.

So I guess that Jake Gyllenhaal, who is coming off an awesome performance in "NightCrawler" is going to go H.A.M. next year in a boxing movie titled "South Paw.

Also last night on ShowTime, in making the fourth defense of his 175-pound championship, Adonis Stevenson (25-1, 21 KOs) dropped Dmitry Sukhotsky (22-3, 16 KOs) four times and dominated from start to finish at the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec City.

This either sets up a potential Canadian Battle Royal vs Pascal or in a unification bout against undefeated Russian Sergey Kovalev.

Don't know how many of you care, but for the first time in a very long time, there is a heavyweight boxing match that matters that doesn't include a Klitschko. Bermane Stiverne vs. Deontay Wilder should be on in a little while. Also on the card is Leo Santa Cruz vs. Jesus Ruiz for the WBC Super Bantamweight title.

Wilder and Stiverne are still worse than....Chagaev, Povetkin and Klitchko...why are they fighting for a paper belt? Great Black Hopes? Lololololol how times have changed.

I don't disagree, but this fight will determine Klitschko's next victim and if it is Wilder it will drive more interest from casuals than any fight a Klitschko has been involved in any time in the last 5+ years.

Wilder looked like a boxer tonight, not just a puncher. He fought a great fight and Stiverne was the one that was expected to be a better boxer, can't knock Wilder for tonight's performance.

Wilder looked good. Pretty unrefined at times, but good performance that proved more than another 1-4 round KO would have.

He's got some star potential.

Actually, the state of HW boxing has improved in the last two years (shockingly). It's not great, but there are at least some legitimately decent fighters that neither Klitschko has thoroughly outclassed yet.

Tyson Fury looked good in his last outing against Chisora (much better than the first time they met). Fury may not be the most fluid fighter, but he's young (only 26, which by HW standards is very young for a guy that is only a couple wins away from a fight against Klitschko) and he's clearly improving. Add in the fact that he's 6'9" and you have someone that could actually be a good fight for Klitschko.

Wilder proved he's more than just heavy hands. His jab looked good and he's in his athletic prime, so I don't see him dropping off any time soon.

Far less interesting and mostly opposition, but still guys that haven't lost to a Klitschko include Jennings, Helenius, Stiverne (though, after tonight's fight this becomes way less intriguing, particularly looking at Stiverne's age), and Glazkov.

The fact that this^ is the improved state of HW boxing says a lot about how bad the state of HW boxing is :)

Rios/Alvarado III just started. Rios dominated Alvarado during the first round. Really bad round for Alvarado, but it was entertaining.

Rios absolutely destroying Alvarado. Alvarado lands a (probably intentional) low blow to get Rios off him and Rios finally came up 20 seconds later to crush him for another minute.

After 3, I've got it 30-24 Rios. Alvarado got knocked down in the 3rd. Only reason the 3rd wasn't 10-7 was due to Alvarado actually throwing back, though, if someone argued it was 10-7, I couldn't complain.

HOLY ****! Alvarado couldn't continue after 3.

Rios looked freaking amazing, but I can't tell if that's because Alvarado looked absolutely awful or if it was equal parts Alvarado looking bad and Rios looking great.
