Great tune up fight for Rua Vera's chin has always been a little suspect. Will This get Rua back into the top no not really but it's good to see him fighting at least.

this fight is absoluetly rediculous! shogun said he wuldnt fight teixeira but hell fight vera?!? teixeira may not be well not but come on rlly a loss to vera wuld ruin  shoguns rep. i lost a lot of respect for shogun when i read the interview where dana white said shogun said he wuld rather retire then fight teixeira but then jumped all over the vera fight...

@ladylover, Sadly, I agree. People bashed Dana for doing public with it but I'm glad he said it.

Did Shogun really say he'd rather retire?  I didn't hear that...

@Kalibo - Dana said it, but didn't phrase it like a quote from Shogun.  He phrased it like an opinion.

I think it was he would rather be cut not retire..Glover's manager apparently said they knew nothing of Shogun turning down the fight but take that for whatever it's worth

Doesn't tell you about Shogun as much as it tells you about MMA in general these days.  All fighters are being more careful and selective.  The money and stakes are higher for every fight.  It didn't use to matter as much.

Though I think Vera is an easier fight for Shogun... and I do understand @Greg's point... This particular situation still kinda confuses me.. it's not like he turned down an up and comer for a top10 guy or a big name that is a safe fight... he turned him down for a guy that has been cut... a guy that hasn't done much in years.

personally i believe vera shuld have never been resigned, and i understand the conservativeness of fighters cuz look at condit and now koch.. and rashad waited around forever as well but to turn down teixeira for vera is rediculous on shogun and his camps part

I'd be soooo happy if Brandon Vera won, wouldn't that be an awesome turnaround for a career? Super hyped fighter, gets huge wins, gets ****** over by judges, keeps losing, gets fired and then they find out his opponent's on PEDs so he gets rehired for a final chance...that's such a sick story.

I wouldn't be surprised at all is Vera beat Shogun. Karma is a *****, and Shogun thinks he is taking the easy route here.

WHY

Prediction: correct Rua   correct KO/TKO   wrong Round 3

The only chance Vera has to beat Shogun. Is if Shogun comes in untrained and that is it. But Shogun wont make that mistake again. Like he did against Forrest the first time they fought. I honestly dont know why Shogun is fighting Vera. Shogun should b fighting Rashad. Now that is a great fight!!!

@ICEMAN23 not happening, then. Shogun is sharpening his skills with Dida and Glaube Feitosa, of K1 fame.
