@Trae I agree with you that overall in their career's Lyoto is a better fighter...but using the point of him defending the belt doesn't really matter, because he basically lost to Shogun the first fight( in most people's eyes) and then he got KO'd in the 1st in the rematch.

I'm a fan of both guys...but I just don't think Bader has gone against the level of Machida's striking yet. I won't be extremely surprised if Bader can somehow wrestle to a decision though.

I like Bader in the upset win. Machida is only 1-3 his last 4 fights and Jon Jones showed us a pretty good blueprint for beating the Dragon. If Bader has any brains, he should try the same approach. I think Bader's wrestling will land him the decision here.

So be super dynamic, 6'4 and have a 7 ft arm span and Machida is yours.

Thinking about it and Bader actually does have one chance in the fight...the overhand right he's used to destroy people before can be effective against Machida. It was an overhand right from Shogun that ended Machida right? Bader could land the same shot.

He won't. But he could I guess.

@stickman: Yes, Jon Jones did a fantastic job against Machida. I must agree with Yaspaa though in his thinly veiled sarcasm. Using Jon Jones as a blue print for anything is difficult because he possess physical attributes that nobody else does. On that same note, you could then use Jon Jones as a blue print to beat every top fighter at 205. The only problem with that...Bader is not Jon Jones. He showed that when Jones made extremely easy work of him in that fight. He does nothing similar to Jones either While they are both wrestlers, Jones is Greco Roman which is quite different from freestyle etc. I will agree that a blue print has been established for victory in this fight though. Punch Bader in the jaw then choke him out when he falls down.

I just watched the weighins.  Bader is gonna be a solid 30 lbs bigger than Machida in the cage.  I don't want to see Machida in a boring fight, and Bader has said in interviews that he has a gameplan for this fight.  I want to see something spectacular from Machida, but I'm preparing myself for leg-humping disappointment.

I'm taking Lyoto here just because his striking advantage is far greater than Ryan Baders is, his karate backgrounds gonna make it hard for ryan to get inside and take him down and i think he's gonna tag him in round two and im gonna go even further and say ryans getting knocked out coming in for a takedown

Yea, but Ebersole was cutting to 155 and didn't look like he even cared.  He took that fight on pretty short notice.  Machida's not dropping down, and his motivation for the fight is not in question.  As for the game plan, Randy Couture had a game plan for Machida as well.  He was one of the best game planners the UFC has seen.  Say what you want about his age and size difference from Bader.  At the time he fought Machida, his stand-up (i.e..head movement, foot work, technical punching), was better than Bader's is now.  As for his chin, I know that Tito Ortiz never dropped him, so I have to give him the edge on that.  Randy couldn't catch up with Machida and sure couldn't take him down.  I just can't see Bader having any more success.
