Injuries Sustained During Fight

Spong: Broken Hand

One of the most controversial endings to a muay thai world championship in modern times, the NO CONTEST result made no sense to anyone. Nathan Corbett had just scored a vicious knockdown to Tyrone Spong in the third round, the referee gave Spong the count despite it being obvious that he would be unable to continue. At the end of the count the referee waves the fight off, Corbett claims he thought the fight was being waved on so attacked Spong with a few punches before the referee intervened and again waved the fight off. Spong's corner were visibly upset by Corbett's actions believing he deliberately continued to fight knowing the bout had been waved off, something that Corbett denies. After much discussion and heated debate the fight was declared a NO CONTEST due to Spong's broken hand (which occurred during the first round). Nathan Corbett had clearly won this bout due to knockout by punch in the third round.
