Strickland vs. Pereira
Alex Pereira, DEC
As I'm going up the card this might be the hardest prediction for me. We haven't seen Alex really go the distance yet and Stricklands crazy ass is definitely no slouch by any means. However I'm following the hype with this one because I truly think Alex is determined to go undefeated and get a title shot after maybe this fight and one more and I think he's gonna do it. It's real tough though. And I have until Saturday to change this pick... but im pretty sure I'm sticking with this one. I do think this might be fight of the night though, goes the distance, and may even be a split decision.

Damn right. I’m thankful that I’m getting to see it. Most MMA shows I’ve been to have been local, this is the first big scale one I’m going to see

Volkanovski vs. Holloway III
Alexander Volkanovski, TKO, R4
It's been close both battles, it really has, (although I still believe Volk took both fights unlike some people) but I don't think this one makes it to the Judges. Max Holloway is a beast, a true brawler. But there's something astronomical about Alexander the Great. I truly think he should be in Usmans spot as P4P best fighter.. but that's another debate for another time. I do see some back and forth here like we've seen in both fights as well, hell, Holloway might even take a round or two at first. But I think Volk is too hyped still from his last fight with Jung, back to back solid camps, I'm not picking against him. Three strikes you're out.

Adesanya vs. Cannonier
Israel Adesanya, TKO, R2
I think Adesanya's "weakness" (his ground game) is something he's really focusing on at camp ahead of this bout. Jared has some solid hands and good power but it's about half of what Adesanya brings in my opinion. I dont think think this fight goes near as long as the last one. (Volk and Max) I almost changed the Round to 3 but im going with my initial gut instinct and sticking with 2.

Bam Bam is an underdog after that performance against Brown. Interesting... Lawler's last two wins were against a declining Cowboy and Nick Diaz who basically quit in the 3rd round b/c he hadn't fought in 10 million years and forgot what it was like to get punched hard in the later rounds.

Picks

Predictions: 6 of 12 Winners, 2 Perfect, 365 Points   |   Tied for 3803rd

My picks for this card. Comments welcome.

Very confident
1. Adesanya (KO)
2. Volkanovski (Dec)
3. Turner (KO/Sub)
4. O'Malley (Dec)
5. Jessica Rose (Dec)

Somewhat confident
1. Strickland (Dec)
2. Muniz (Sub)
3. Cerrone (KO)

Leaning but not very confident
1. Lawler (KO)
2. Barber (Dec)
3. Du Plessis (KO/Sub)
4. Green (KO/Sub)

As this is a pay per view in front of a crowd I am expecting a lot more finishes than we see at the Apex.

The fights likely to go to decision (and at risk of getting robbed by the low level judges) - Barber, O'Malley, Volkanovski. Also at risk is Green/Garry if it goes to decision. Remember robberies usually go to the under dogs.

I think if Strickland and Jessica Rose go to decision it should be a clear victory. I did not put O'Malley or Volkanovski in this category because of the quality of their opponent.

I will try to do the rest of my fights analysis soon

I don't know why but I just have a feeling Max vs Volk ends in a finish (even though it probably won't lol)

I’ll say this, I’m not that confident in anyone beside Adesanya

Really competitive cards imo, could see this become a decsion heavy card because of that

@Duck, I am exactly the same way.  I've been winning each week because I don't do anything crazy betting wise anymore.  My strongest pick is Izzy by TKO and I got that at +240 earlier in the week.  Even if Izzy loses or wins by decision or whatever, I still feel safe putting my money on a superstar pound for pound fighter to get the job done compared to anyone else on the card.

The person to dethrone Izzy is going to be another superstar and I feel that person will be Chimaev when the time comes in the next 2 years.

The fact Jessica Rose Clark is still getting a push after that last performance is halirous, i know she's first fight on the card. But the UFC has posted her on Instagram, she's been on The MMA Hour. If she ends up on the UFC YouTube I'll go insane.

(and even against Edwards she couldn't do much but sit ontop.)

I was confident in Volk going into this but after seeing the decision in last weeks main event, Max can win.

Uriah Hall is getting absolutely zero respect from the public and the bookies.  That's probably the best longshot underdog you can take on this card.  If he connects on Andre Muniz the same way that he connected on Antonio Carlos Junior multiple times in their fight, Muniz is going to be put out cold.

I would still rank this version of Uriah Hall as better than Muniz's last three opponents.  Fabinski had zero submission defense or awareness, Souza is at the tail end of his career and Anders is a mid card fighter.

Then again I could be wrong but Uriah Hall at +240 is just ridiculous man.

I don’t know how many more judges decisions in the main events going weird that I can take. Seems like they have been busting up my parlays with new scoring emphasis at the end of each card, when I need my last leg to hit. I think this started around the holly holm decision and it’s put me on a bad streak. I gotta figure out a way to adjust my picks to what they are seeing in these decision fights.

Mens= power over volume, control time doesn’t matter if damage doesn’t come with it?

Womens= control time does matter?

Thoughts on what judges are emphasizing in their scoring??? It seemed to have changed some over the last couple months.
