After a career like that and being so involved in the sport in the cage and out, i am very surprised he is ok with his final fight was against someone so... don't know the right way to put it so 'insignificant' will have to do.

If Randy has it in his head that he should retire, then he probably should. A fighter shouldn't stick in the game when he loses the desire to do so. He also knows his body better than we do. He's won his last 3 straight fights which is a good end. What's worse finishing a boxing champion who in MMA is insignificant or getting beat down by mid tier fighters for a couple years and wasting away headlining local MMA shows. The man has spent 50% of his career fighting for world titles. He is 9-6-0 in World title fights, 3 time HW champion, and 2 time LHW champion, he will likely never hold a title again, and he has nothing else to accomplish in this sport. Everyone has to retire sometime and it just might be that time for Randy.

Yeah unless there is another good novelty fight why should he keep going. As if he's going to beat Jon Jones... he's more than twice his age and sorry but 48 just ain't 38.

It still would have been cool to see a 50 yr old man go in there and win one final fight in the cage. Cause I believe there wont be another fighter like him, maybe ever.

Couture has officially retired and come back before, so I don't know if you can ever completely rule out his coming back for another fight.

Reports today on MMAJunkie and MMAWeekly have alleged that Couture's statement was premature. I expect him to fight once more in a meaningless battle against a gatekeeper, maybe a Stephan Bonnar, before retiring, but I could see him calling it quits.
Good for him. Getting out while he can still enjoy his life.

Yeah I saw that article on ESPN, he said he turned down 2 fights in the past months but had he been offered Lyoto or Shogun he would have taken it. I believe he doesnt want anymore novelty fights like Walker because the Toney fight meant more to the sport then a Herschel Walker fight would. I think he wants to try and make one more title run whether he can or not is another point, but going out on top would be the ultimate career finisher in my opinion and would make him the greatest fighter of all time. If he tries to make one more run and loses to another contender then maybe he takes one more fight against someone he can beat so he finishes with a win, but then again thats not really Randy's style.
