I was impressed that she dropped Joanna and took that first rounds. Claudia easy.

Casey gets some brutal matchmaking, although she really came through in her last fight.

Oh, hello Cortney, you're 3-0 coming into the UFC? Ok, you will now fight our entire top 10, yes, including the title contenders. Good luck.

well thats the thing... theres NOT much else she can do...its still a young division... most these girls hanging around the top 10 did exactly that after TUF..they just kept fighting each other... is this the same girl that got absolutely destroyed a few fights back... cant remember who did it but they bloodied her up pretty good?

I can't remember Casey getting wrecked in any of her fights...

She gave JoJo a run for her money in that first round before getting outpointed in the following two, and then got outpointed by Ham the next fight (who I think she would beat now with more experience). She didn't get destroyed by either girl.

Man I want to pull the trigger on a Cortney upset here ... may still do so before the fight, need to think about it.

@Yoss I wouldn't do it, I think Gadelha is on another level from most of the division.

(Joanna-->Claudia-->Karolina/Rose/Esparza/Andrade/Torres-->the rest). That's the way I see it anyway.

That said, if Casey does somehow upset Claudia...that would be insane for the division. And she'd probably get the winner of JJ/KK as well.

She is, but Cortney has got the size, athleticism and skillset to eventually be a top girl, question is if she's there yet (she probably isn't).

The fact remains that if Cortney can keep Gadelha off her I think she'd have the striking advantage, I just don't know if she can keep her off her just yet.

I'm going to play around with it a bit, watch a little tape and try to predict Cortney's progression trajectory between fights. Will most likely stick to Claudia, but I have a gut feeling about this one.

EDIT:: One thing's for sure, Cortney's got a huge set of balls, no one will ever be able to accuse her of taking the easy route to the top. Her UFC schedule to date has been murderous and some of them on short notice too.

@Yoss Agreed. Like I said, consider the division massively shook up if she wins. I can't see her not getting a title shot if she finishes Claudia. It would be one of the most unorthodox paths to the title ever, but I guess that's what would happen with a potential massive upset.

So apparently both Esparza and Tecia (doesn't want to fight a Brazilian in Brazil) declined this fight.

Really I doubt either of them would be too keen on fighting Gadelha anywhere.

What's up with Esparza anyway? She took a long time off after Joanna killed her, took the Lima fight on very short notice and won, and has now been out another 7 months with nothing announced.

@PilloryChoke Carla tweeted last month that she wants a fight but I think she is very selective about who she is willing to fight.

I am hoping a rematch with JAG gets done early next year.

I honestly don't think Esparza will take a fight against JAG. I think she'd prefer someone ranked around where  Randa Markos is.

@unbeknownst Carla is currently No 3 in UFC Rankings.

IF she has back-to-back fights vs unranked opponents she won't deserve to be ranked in the Top 10.

@maccca3232: True. That ranking is based on her being a former champion. However I think that beat down, given to Carla by JJ, really has damaged her confidence.

I get the feeling that she doesn't want to work her way back to the title as long as JJ is the champion. That's why she's being so selective with her bouts, she's in no rush to be in title contention.
