   So before all the people who pretend to care about WMMA get mad at me: if this fight was in front of a crowd, it would've been fight of the year. The problem with Zhang vs Joanna is that despite how competitive the fight was, it was never really in danger of being stopped. This fight could've been stopped like eight times. Poirier and Hooker beat the holy **** out of each other for five rounds straight, and it was essentially for nothing as no title shot was guaranteed for the winner. People always talk about how certain fights "change" the participants, that literally happened here. Dan Hooker could not see when this fight was done, both guys could barely walk, and it's a shame that this will get overshadowed by Zhang/Joanna, even though it's a better fight.

   So yes, this fight is not #1. Which means it's still VERY GOOD, it beat out a bunch of other incredible fights, it's just a tad overrated in my opinion. With that said, this fight is awesome. So infrequently do we see womens' fights where the participants actually take risks, but Zhang and Joanna took every risk possible in this fight, and it was great. Of course, the main takeaway from this fight is the giant hematoma on Joanna's head, but the actual fight itself has several notable moments like Zhang tanking a spinning backfist from Joanna, the sheer amount of face damage endured by both fighters, and the white hot crowd are all great. Just wish this could've been followed up by a better fight than what we ended up getting.
