- Dulatov vs. Palaiologos
- Islam Dulatov | KO/TKO | Round 1
- 2024 | OKTAGON 53
-
Really spectacular performance from Dulatov. Probably his toughest test so far and he really blasted him out of there. Pala has a tricky BJJ game and is a bit of a sub threat which makes it hard to go down and finish him when he's hurt, but Dulatov was able to stay pretty safe and throw GNP for the most part. Did have a couple of armbar threats and I would question why he was going into a dangerous guard in the first place when he was absolutely tooling the guy on the feet.
Punches were sharp, fast, powerful and down the middle and couldn't miss. Looked big leagues ready to me.

- Yann Oliveira | Disqualificaton | Round

Oliveira weird movement style, head pretty open. Consfusing early and blasts decent leg kicks in, but Zebian seemed to work out his patterns pretty quickly and didn't really adapt them much. **** on the bottom and made stupid grappling errors when on top. Looked like he took an out for a DQ when he had the chance.
Zebian is okay, meat and potatoes type striker. Decent level changes and decent on top, pretty serviceable striking, nothing flashy. Keeps coming.

Yunisilau is boring as ****, entries not that great but good at keeping hold of people once he actually has them down. Good at taking and holding back although doesn't really threaten to finish from there. Striking pretty horrible, just has to pressure forward kind of reaching out and throwing the occasional strike until he can shoot. Khisholov looked okay as a striker, half decent kicks but couldn't deal with a decent wrestler and couldn't get him off his back.

Brichta doing well on the feet, good with kicks at range early, then throwing hard and accurate hooks and catching Mircea pretty clean several times. Had a big grappling deficiency in this one though, whenever Mircea changed levels on him he struggled to avoid double legs and to get back up. ****** up massively giving his back and letting himself get flattened out to get finished.
Mircea good with the wrestling and top control but was getting tagged really clean multiple times on the feet at times and didn't seem to be able to get his chin out of the way at all. Would probably have been KO'd multiple times against a heavy hitter. Seemed to manage to break Leo with the wrestling though.

Superb changing of the guard performance from Ilia. Always looks in balance and is so dangerous when he gets people up against the cage and gets in kill shot range where they can't circle out. Really competitive fight. Paulo always looks good when he actually gets himself in there. Really fires that high kick very fast and looks super dangerous with it. Super explosive early and throwing spinning **** at his size with that kind of speed and power is weird. A little bit repetitive maybe which allowed Rob to work his way into the fight with his faster hands and blasting leg kick combos. Both guys looked good and both still clearly elite though.

Tentative approach from Garry, circling and fighting at range. Used kicks to maintain range pretty well, still looks a little hittable when going backwards. Circling and using footwork pretty well, Neal following a lot and not doing a great job cutting off cage. Neal just about the stronger in the clinch but not able to get much done there. Usual stupid pace from Merab ended up breaking the spirit of someone as good as Henry. Was close initially and Henry clipped Merab pretty hard in the first but threat wanes as Merab puts pace on over rounds. Merab really good with trip takedown off failed single leg in open mat and used that several times when it looked like Henry might be able to limp leg away.

Fluffy breaking people with pace as usual. Took a round to get his takedowns going but never gives up on them and keeps going and going until he starts to get them. Initially really good TDD from Roman against the cage and some sharp strikes to the body when he had space. Once he actually does get taken down he has the issue of showing his back as he comes up which cost him here. Would be happy to back him against gassier wrestlers than Fluffy. Dominant performance with the grappling overall from Oban. Looked pretty decent on the feet, landed a nice high kick but got wobbled badly by Val being explosive and throwing big hooks. Improved striking from Miranda, managing distance and covering distance well with loopy hooks. Actually outstruck Lee on the feet. Miranda also mixed high kicks in pretty well. Lee looked very hesitant and seems to be lacking confidence, didn't seem to believe in ability to get back in fight. Throwing kicks out of range and especially struggling with distance management on punches. Hit a lot of air. - Pinto vs. Aras
- Mario Pinto | Decision | Levels Fight League 11
-
Thought Pinto looked good, very calm style, not particularly high volume but didn't need to be, worked well behind jabs and leg kicks all fight, not putting huge power on them but stopping shorter opponent getting in and accumulating damage. Taken down a couple of times early but very quick to tripod back up. TDD fine other than that, was held against cage and maybe needs to stop entries but was against a decent stocky wrestler and used big man defence to hang off him and pummel him to upper body well. Picked opponent apart patiently and looked like he could beat UFC fighters to me. Maybe slight concerns about whether he'll throw enough volume to separate himself.
Aras is just a bit limited, stocky with decent wrestling, solid entries and wings decent overhands but was getting picked apart at range and didn't seem to have a second level of cage takedown to get to once his first shot got thwarted, not trying to move Pinto around or get to back or anything.

Zaragoza fairly meat and potatoes dude. Seems pretty solid all round. Pushed forward inside Aburto well to throw in close, so good tactical decision making. Aburto can not deal with it when people come straight at him. Striking defence horrible under pressure, looks very awkward and gets landed on a lot. Moves back in straight lines. Able to rely on Olympic level wrestling to get opponent down when badly wobbled and ultimately just win round. Obviously excellent control on top, good back takes too. A little off on sub attemps in terms of finding the right angles but goes for them a lot and gets them in the end. Chained wrestling together well, sucks in singles.

Perez very low level, trying terrible Imanari rolls to try and get to the ground, couldn't get anything going standing, doesn't have the wrestling to get it to the ground and could only get it there by guard pulling. Had to try and roll or flop otherwise.

Dinwoodie more of a BJJ girl with long legs, good at back takes and has sweeps from guard if she gets in a position for one. Struggled a bit with the physical side of the fight but Chase a very strong girl. A lot of her RNC attempts would probably have got most girls out of there, but Chase very tough. Could use more GNP in general although did use more in the 3rd.
Chase all physicality really. Strong and throws powerfully when in close. Alright on top, passes quite well and throws spazzy Aspen Ladd style GNP. Range striking awful, sits back far too heavy on back foot on side kicks. Gave back too easily and ended up in a lot of RNCs but kind of just toughs her way through them.

All a bit too friendly with constant high fives and hugging for some reason. Yasubey took on short notice and is 40 now. Still looked sharp enough on the feet but not reacting quickly enough to double legs.
Kiamran was timing the doubles well and getting some good time on top, sporadic in the damage he was causing there but looked solid in holding top position. Brings right hand through with some decent pop. A bit low output on the feet at times.

- Saraliev vs. Casotti
- Akhmed Saraliev | Decision | RCC 18
-
Saraliev a bit weird. Showboats on the feet without really throwing at range. Does seem to have pop when lands when at close range. Good standard Dagi grappling control when on top, read leg positions fine and kept self on top, didn't really get close to finishing.
Casotti messed up one decent chance to go for a kneebar when on top. Didn't seem to have a lot going for him striking either and pretty much stuck on the bottom.

- Altamirano vs. dos Santos
- Felipe dos Santos | Decision | UFC Fight Night
-
Lipe's TDD let him down in this one. Good get ups early but that wore down as the fight went on. Bit too much of a gilly merchant early on in the fight but in fairness stopped doing that. Crashes distance and throws a bit too heavy in close against a wrestler which led to him being taken down too often. Pushing heavy in third at altitude.
Victor kind of awkward on feet, okay kicks at distance. Not really throwing very hard with the hands. Good level changes when Lipe overthrew to get to mat regularly but didn't really get a lot of control time. Set very high pace early but tough to keep it that high at elevation.

- Rodríguez vs. Bondar
- Ronaldo Rodríguez | Submission | Round 2 | UFC Fight Night
-
Bondar had a decent start to the fight. Double legs are fast and level changes are well timed. Has that Dagi style spin striking with a high guard but didn't really like pressure with it. Questionable mentality for me. Seemed fine when things going well but once lazyboy wasn't allowing himself to get dominated and started pouring offence on him he seemed get tired and break.
Lazyboy taken down a few times but by well timed level changes. Very scrambly on the bottom, always trying to move and ended up on top a few times from good scrambling. Kept a good pace to beat opponent. Likes to come forward and stand in the pocket. Happy to take one to give one and seems to have a good chin. Back takes and control pretty good. Good performance overall.

- Puelles vs. Ziam
- Fares Ziam | Decision | UFC Fight Night
-
Ziam allowing entries from far too far away, needs to address those much earlier. Stayed pretty safe when on the bottom, used whizzer to work up pretty well a couple of times. Did get some damage off when got reversal to steal rounds. Cardio looked pretty good at elevation. Uses butterfly hooks pretty well to keep space.
Puelles not explosive but able to drag Ziam down eventually sometimes, good top control but didn't do much damage. Striking kind of sucks, moves back in straight lines. Also has a habit of not covering face in full guard which allows opponent to get some ground and pound off and get rounds back. Entries very inconsistent in terms of how good they are.

Usual stuff from Lacerda, looks excited, gets in trouble and ends up being finished. Not defensively aware in grappling either.
Chairez good triangle off his back, dangerous with those again.

- Aguilar vs. Mendonça
- Jesus Aguilar | Decision | UFC Fight Night
-
Mendonca some good trips, gets straight on it as the round starts. Got tagged a couple of times, striking defence maybe not all. Good top control for the most part, switches positions pretty well. Cardio pretty decent at elevation
Aguilar has decent pop on the feet, gilly wasn't really working for him in this fight. Generally pretty tight and safe on the bottom, didn't really look like getting subbed and kind of works way out of positions with arms nice and tight to body.

- Quiñonez vs. Barcelos
- Raoni Barcelos | Submission | Round 3 | UFC Fight Night
-
Quinonez looked good until he made one bad mistake. Striking well at range, can crack with long range punches. Sometimes gets a bit excited and throws down when he doesn't need to. Taken down a few times but generally really quick to scramble up effectively. Just ****** up once and got choked. Looked like he would win the majority of the time.
Barcelos good come from behind win, took choke opportunity. Looks a bit past prime but still got a solid double leg and still time level changes into it well off his strikes. Struggled to hold Quinonez down but a very scrambly opponent. Looks a little slower than he used to be.

- Torres vs. Duncan
- Manuel Torres | Submission | Round 1 | UFC Fight Night
-
Torres is just carnage. Can get him and got wobbled early but strength and aggression early. Uses weird takedowns but ragdolled Duncan over a bit, took back and extremely good squeeze from there.
Duncan came out well and got straight on Torres, don't think he did too badly just ended up overwhelmed by first round hell on wheels. Still a decent fighter.

- Jauregui vs. Hughes
- Yazmin Jauregui | Decision | UFC Fight Night
-
Good performance from Yasmin. Much faster than Hughes and not troubled at all in the striking, good movement to find angles and stay away from the cage, fast hands, fired combos and mixed kicks in there well too. Good pummeling up to upper body before seperating whenever Sam did briefly get in.
Bad style match up for Sam, unable to see any entries, kept trying but against much faster girl on the feet who she couldn't hold still. Pretty dominated.

- Daniel Zellhuber | Decision | UFC Fight Night

Zellhuber excellent once he found his range. Started to figure Prado out and intercept him with combos as he tried to press forward and really got off on him. Good long, accurate powerful punches mixed in with head and body kicks. Good volume and able to go for a three round war at altitude.
Prado cut off cage well early, comes forward and wings good overhands very hard. Really good chin. Didn't seem to be able to adjust once Zellhuber had him figured out. Ate a lot of damage but really good heart and kept coming.

- Rodriguez vs. Ortega II
- Brian Ortega | Submission | Round 3 | UFC Fight Night
-
Ortega tagged badly early but super ******* tough and hangs in there. Not explosive with the takedowns but did focus on the grappling this time and has a way of finding trips off body locks and single legs to find way to ground. Good damage with elbows inside guard. Once he's past the guard you're pretty much ******.
Yair an absolute terror early, hurt Brian badly when he tried to crowd him. Not afraid of going into guard and landed some good GNP from there. Did fine on the bottom in the 2nd, stayed safe but ended up mounted in third and having Ortega there is a huge problem.

- Brandon Royval | Decision | UFC Fight Night
-
Royval crazy high output at altitude. Took a while to get range but started landing more and more as the fight went on. Tends to leave leg out there during combos to be kicked which can be a problem against some guys. Usual pace and scrambling.
Moreno a bit too low output in this one. Takedowns didn't look great, landing some nice leg kicks, felt like could have done more output wise but found it tough to keep up with a high level guy at altitude like Royval. Countering nicely pulling into overhand early though.

Solid performance from Rasul. Looked much the sharper striker of the two, good selection with his punches and mixed kicks in well. Good movement on back foot to find angles to get combos off. Defended shots fine.
Kishev didn't have a great fight really, trying to pressure forward but not really throwing much and couldn't get much going in terms of takedowns.

Muslim looking fatter than usual but still being Muslim, he sometimes throws some strikes when coming forward, but he inevitably gets a double leg takedown against the cage and then inevitably controls the round from there and then at some point the other dude tires out and gets finished.

Grigor looked great here, able to hurt Musaev with a winged punch early then seemed to have developed his TDD a bit, nice and heavy on his base against the cage while dropping damaging elbows. Managed to turn around, take Musaev down himself and finish with GNP.
Musaev looked a bit lost when he couldn't get the wrestling going, just hanging out and taking damage, but he did get rocked early.

Luna looked pretty solid overall, did have part of a round where he lowered his output a little more on the feet than I'm used to with him but was happy to stand with a pretty wild dude. Fell off the back a little sloppily a couple of times but top grappling and back takes generally good, maintained control well.
Garcia is a pretty wild dude on the feet, likes to sling hard and throw wild ****. At a bit of a grappling disadvantage and chose to engage in it a couple of times when he shouldn't have.

- Gustavo vs. Horie
- Luiz Gustavo | Decision | RIZIN LANDMARK 8 in SAGA
-
Gustavo a little bit repetitive in his attacks. Presses forward a lot and lunges a bit with 1,2s. Does have good speed on them and good power when he can land. able to keep coming forward throwing them for three full rounds. Took advantage of Horie tiring to take over late.
Horie fought pretty well early, good feinting, leg kicks and mixing in takedowns, just started gassing in the third, got clipped a few times, didn't eat them too well and dropped and let Gustavo back into the fight.
Gustavo close decision for me.
