I disagree with Edgar deserving a rematch because he did so many himself. He clearly lost to BJ the second time, and the Maynard fight was a draw. Taking someone's title as controversially as he did merited a rematch. Not defeating the title challenger merits a rematch. Losing a clear cut 49-46/48-47 does not.

Frankie Edgar has gotten his ass beat by bigger lightweights in his last 3 fights.  I don't really care if he still managed to go 1-1-1 in those fights, this is getting ridiculous.  Why we need to watch Frankie take another beating before he moves down is beyond me.  Was there even any controversy over the first fight?  Thought it was pretty clear Bendo won.

I get why people think Frankie deserves his rematch, but I think it's seriously a lost cause.  I'd much rather see the rematch with Pettis, a fight that was much more competitive, exciting, and a lot closer on the scorecards.

Frankie is just too small for lightweight and it's becoming more evident after each fight.

@lynxguy Agreed. Also, when is this fight going down? I know it said in the summer, but are they going to give Ben his wish and put it on the Brazil card (doubtful)? Or are they planning this for way out in the future? I thought Ben had been given medical clearance already, especially considering he already started training and won his weight division at a grappling tournament.

I don't see the problem....Frankie deserved it and Pettis didn't! Also the Diaz vs Miller winner is much more deserving imo....

@jaffa Creating rematch after rematch makes it hard for people to get excited to spend money on cards, especially for Edgar. Honestly, I think the card will need to be headlined/co-headlined by a fight people will be more excited for or it's numbers are going to be low. Edgar, to be honest, is one of the lesser PPV draws because of his point fighting. He was only helped by BJ's name (plus Anderson Silva/Maia and Couture/Toney <----Toney was a HUGE draw sadly) and the awesome of Edgar/Maynard 2.

Also Edgar/Maynard 3 (easily a better card than 125 I might add) did 250k buys which was about 30k-50k lower buys than their second fight. Both numbers are pretty ****** and shows how much people really care about Edgar.

I say grant Benson's wish and put him on the Brazil card as the co-main. Call it "UFC 147: Rematch." Silva/Sonnen 2, Henderson/Edgar 2, and Silva/Belfort 2. Awesome card.

so if frankie previously "gave" rematches, and it earns a rematch when he looses- does bendo get instant rematch if he looses given he rematched this?

if every division favoured draws, 2nd shots at close fights and a rematch at every decision then fitch might be 170 champ, just let bendo take pettis, give frankie miller as a number 1 contender fight, if hes really best hes got his belt back by october

I cant take another rematch, this is absolutely ridiculous. Eventually, to be a champ, you have to stand amongst the rest of the division. Clearly Edgar cant do this, as he has to rematch everyone he fights. Move on.. make edgar fight at his real weight.

@zarog I really wish that the rematch wasn't happening, because I don't want to wait that long. If I do have to wait though, your idea sounds pretty awesome.

thing is, the longer he delays dropping to 145, the more 155ers hit top 10, realise everything above them is a log jam, drop, and become the fight frankie gets before aldo - i see pearson being brutal at featherweight, i see siver kicking heads clean off the shoulders and RNCing any remains that land in the octagon. i dont know whos next to drop, but 145 might become a bigger shark pit than lw soon enough, take the opertunity while it stands

@zarog,why do you ask me difficult questions at ridiculous times of morning... in addition to those who already have, on tapology consensus rankings:
2-frankie
7- jim miller. 5'8, if pearson can make it so can miller if it looks like being better for his career,
10-aoki, maybe, did i read his 70kg fights were without a cut? if thats right the easily fw if he felt he needed to.
17- tibau- falls into the denis siver class, carries a ridiculous ammount of muscle at 155, itd be a difficult cut and take 6 months, but he could do it.
18-g sot. i think hed have no cardio on the cut, but is on a big enough loose streak to consider it.
19- siver- already has.

@wifflet With Aoki's build, it'd be amazing if he could cut the weight. People are always confused how Tibau makes 155 as it is, so he isn't making it. G Sot is way too big to make the cut without killing himself. I think if Jim Miller could make the cut, he already would.

@ Matryoshka dont be an idiot. Benson outstruck him, check the numbers. Frankie got the takedowns, but tell me what damage did he do with them? What did Frankie do after the takedown? Nothing, Benson literally got right back up. People are sick in the head if they think Frankie won. It was a good fight, and it was kinda close, but Benson got the well deserved nod. I sick and tired of seeing Edgar tied to the belt. He lost, and he should accept it and move down where a title shot is already waiting for him. The LW division is a shark tank, but Dana is holding it up all because this Jersey Shore sissy whined until he got a rematch. I hope Benson finishes him next time.. Then i hope Edgar retired after some serious brain damage.

like i say tibau wouldnt be a water cut- like siver hes carrying beach muscles that arnt effective, if siver drops those 10lbs from his neck and becomes a top 145er then those of a short but meaty 155 might think about effective use of muscle weight.
is g sot actually any heavier than aldo pre cut? he's tall but he dosnt have much on the shoulders/neck
my aoki was only based on the vauge memory iv seen he dosnt cut to 70kg, which is what ronda was in the olympics, shes 135 now. im willing to be wrong on that as i have no source.
jim- hasnt in my opinion had the kick up the arse to say you cant make it try to drop, yet.

@TraeBlack How about you make your point without wishing brain damage on another person.... Then again that just reflects on you as a person so whatever works for you!

I hope he gets it from the beating he gets from Benson. The division has been held up for far too long, and its ******* stupid go give immediate rematches just because a fight was kinda close.
