Interesting to see what the yo-yo/day-of cutting does to AJ, if anything.

I hope Vitor smashes him and Johnson gets cut. If he doesn't care about his job which he clearly doesn't missing weight 3 times now why should we as fans care about watching him fight. I still can't believe he weighed 197 and then claims he has a medical condition. Maybe it would have been a good idea to notify Dana before weigh in day then. Maybe? Just a thought.

I think he did have a medical condition -- which was caused by trying to cut too much weight. As I understand it, he was cutting, was very close to the target, and then his body started shutting down. UFC doctors told him to rehydrate immediately and he gained approximately 10lbs in fluid, which put him at about 12lbs over for the actual weigh in.

Rumble should really start camp at a lower weight and keep nutritional discipline.  He should also team up with Mike Dolce (who just happens to be working with Vitor right now).

I should also add that i think Rumble is going to be weakened by this whole ordeal and Vitor is not going to take it easy on him.  Vitor by TKO, 1st round.

I can't even imagine what the extreme cutting he does has done to his body. For him to make 170lbs in the past is insane.

In all seriousness, this fight should have probably been cancelled.

AJ's been quoted as saying the following: "It was for medical reasons, and I did what the UFC doctor told me to do . . . . Say what you want, I'm still going to do my (thing). You try not having feeling in your legs and can't move and see how you look at like after that."

If he can't feel his legs and cannot move, it's an incredibly bad idea to step in the cage and have someone like Belfort throw fists at your head while wearing 4 oz. gloves. I'd hate to see a good fight called off as much as anyone, but this just pushes the bounds of what is reasonable and safe, in my opinion.

Rumble walks around at the same weight that Rampage does.

He should just move up to Light Heavyweight if he's gonna be killing himself making middleweight.

I agree why not fight at a comfortable weight, why try to kill yourself to lose weight and fight unhealthy.

why are people so angry at him?  from what i've read @blackwork is correct.  he got all the way to 186.5 and got sick from it.  doctors forced him back up and that's why he was 197 at the weigh in.  does that make him a jerk?  it doesn't in my book.  he just mismanaged a new weight cut he was doing for the first time.

If you watch DFW's Vlog, it has some behind-the-scenes footage on this. DFW breaks the news to Belfort as Belfort is spitting and chewing on ice through a towel so that he can make 186. Contrast that with AJ coming off as pretty cavalier about the whole thing, coupled with the fact he's a big guy fighting at what I'd guess is way, way below his natural in-shape weight, whether it's at 170 or 185lbs. I think people are generally pissed about it because (a) it's unprofessional and its not the first time he's missed weight; (b) AJ's compounded it by going on the offensive rather than apologizing; (c) the "medical issue" appears to be a doctor told him his health and safety were at risk if he tried to even cut 1.5lbs more of weight; and (d) there are a ton of guys who would kill to be in AJ's shoes who would have made weight, as AJ promised in a contract he'd do.

Beyond that, being back in Brazil is a big ******* deal for the UFC, and AJ jeopardized the co-main event by not being on weight, which is something that is completely within his control. You're either a professional or not, and that was completely unprofessional.

If Rumble loses, then he needs to take a step back, take a break from the UFC and try to reinvent himself, whether that means changing his diet and losing a natural 10-15 lbs. before trying for middleweight again, or fight at light heavyweight. Take a few fights out of the UFC (which I don't think there is much competition for him outside of the UFC), and then come back a new person.

But we'll see how tonight goes.
