So I have just become the FightCenter Editor for Influencer events and thought it would be a good idea to set up a thread here for people to chat about current and upcoming events without flooding Mikey's thread for standard boxing.  Feel free to post updates, talk about events, and discuss the scene in here.  Good luck on your KSI picks this weekend

Maybe get an actual job first.

I've seen your scores on this site. You'd be ******* terrible as a judge. You'd be better off trying to get a job as batman, TBH.

No idea what you're looking at. Can't even break down a fight.

I work as a trader in a sportsbook lol.  I make $55000 a year.  And if that's your opinion on my scores you either haven't seen them, haven't seen the fight I was scoring, or everyone's scores were trash cuz I was with the consensus lol

Sigh

Why do you trogs who sit under fluorescent tube bulbs tilting point spreads to divvy up bettors until they're roughly equal on either side of wager/ you hit roughly equivalent liability on both sides and think this is some magical arcane instrument persist in using the word 'trader'. You're not traders. You don't know **** about trading. Unless you're working for some hole-in-the-corner agency you're probably not even doing in-house pricing-- an algorithm is, and your company is paying fees to buy the lines. In fact, that's probably why agencies are getting better at pricing generally--because they've managed to exclude human analysis and calibration far more efficiently.

Take note all you would-be 'pro' gamblers out there.

You're not a trader.

You work in data-entry.

To be fair to @****les, he's right about the pricing thing. I'm a shop manager at a high street bookie and we have a separate team of people who make the prices and send them out to our ALBOS systems and they update automatically. My job is basically to take the bets and settle them and make sure that the shop runs smoothly and are being compliant with the licencing objectives set by the gambling commission. Most of the bets we take are on horse racing. I know enough to be conversational about horse racing but I certainly don't know enough or have the time to accurately make a book for every single race. I don't need to as that isn't part of my job, I just make sure everything goes smoothly at ground level.

He's right when he's warning any "pro gamblers" out there as unless you bet with an independent or extremely small bookie, it's not "you VS the bookie", it's you VS a team of accountants with access to some ridiculously detailed databases, algorisms and God knows what else. Even if you do start consistently winning big then my boss will send us either a proof of income letter or a proof of ID letter to give to you next time you come in which means we can't serve you until you provide certain documents such as bank statements, payslips etc. for proof of income or full passport with name, address, date of birth etc. for proof of ID under the guise of needing to prove to the gambling commission that we know that our big spenders are clean and not involved in criminal activity which is one of the previously mentioned licencing objectives. Even if you are willing to provide these, we usually let you continue gambling but at heavily reduced stakes. There was one really good greyhound trainer we had betting with us once who got reduced to maximum stakes of Ā£50, singles only and no dogs over 4/1. He doesn't come in anymore. The process is probably different in the US and will vary state to state (I believe that there are some states where sports betting is still illegal though correct me if I'm wrong) but that's how the system works over here in the UK and I'd imagine that each state would have a similar sort of gambling commission that oversees the bookies and any major bookies would also operate in a similar manner internally.

Major bookies aren't run by gamblers. They're run by accountants.

@Stephen Terry

Thanks for the bookie insights.

Prior to 2018, sports gambling was illegal nationwide through an act of Congress. This got overturned by Murphy v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, 138 S. Ct. 1461. I believe it is now legal in about 20 states, but laws in those states vary greatly. It gets more complicated when you realize that in many areas gambling is permitted on Indian reservations but not on state owned or privately owned land.

@gwinCLARKE2019

Thanks for the insight into what it's like across the pond! I guess when our whole island is about the size of Florida, it's a lot easier for one commission to oversee everything in the whole country than it would be for the US to have one federal level (I think that's the correct US nationwide term, again correct me if I'm wrong) gambling commission. And as for the Native American's, I've heard about them running casinos and things but I don't know enough about their culture to even attempt to draw conclusions so I'll just write that off as one of those legal oddities. Funnily enough, over here casinos and Licenced Betting Offices (legal term for bookies) are both overseen by the gambling commission but have different licences. A bookies will have an operating licence and a casino has another version of the operating licence but their conditions are slightly different though I'm not sure exactly what the details of their one is. I know one trivial difference is that bookies can only operate between 7am - 10pm where as some casinos can operate 24/7. There's probably a whole load of different ones as well. Just to confuse it even more, whenever I've worked at one of our stands at a racecourse, there is yet another racecourse operating licence that we need as well that comes with some differences. In a normal bookies, we can't serve anyone seen consuming alcohol or we suspect is drunk but we can at racecourses. The ethics of that are certainly debatable but again, legal oddities and all that.

Dillon Danis pulling out of this fight is the first time this fight's existence has even entered my radar. Maybe I'm living under a rock but I call that a success in this case!
