Instead of spamming the boards everytime I see some cool news, I’ll post it here. I’ll also keep track of prospects I like, new signings to ufc/dwcs/Bellator/etc.

He tore something (I think in his shoulder) in October so he’s gonna be out for a minute. I remember he was gonna fight Chimaev at uae last year but legit got injured 24 hours after taking the call so they went with Usman instead

UFC have been serving **** for fight night main events in 2024, sure the ppvs are incredible but FN’s are crap

@jefferson it’s cancelled now, Tagir needs an opponent

@calforh yeah that’s the consequence of the insane cards that were 299 and 300. I think the second half of the year should be more consistent but these FN’s have been awful for the most part

It's also a consequence of the UFC getting rid of decent mid-level talent or sometimes even good talent like Kahkromonov in order to save a buck or for other reasons. The main events of these FNs not being the best could be saved by there being more decent fights and known names on these cards but we get the double whammy of unexciting main events with tons of new fighters, some of which are clearly not UFC-level or what used to be UFC-level.

@Jstl

When DWCS first started in 2017 you could have an amazing fight that goes the distance and Dana was like "well, good fight but you didn't finish, so I can't really sign you". Now you can have a boring fight and if you're in the right division or of the right nationality Dana will be gushing and potentially even sign the loser.

There is nothing wrong with singing the prospects but they need to sign more fighters who already have the name. I mean fighters like Vartanyan. Asakura will be the perfect move if it’s true. MVP, Oumar Sy, Harrison is perfect addition as well.

Is ESPN happy with those apex cards?

ESPN doesn’t care about the cards at all, the ufc gets paid per event that they put on. I know they get paid 20 million just by espn simply for putting a ppv event on their broadcast system. As long as ifc is pumping out events, espn will continue to pay them

I don't think the ratings will sink and I think that's why ESPN hasn't tried to mess with the events.  The UFC used to be a niche thing, now it's become more mainstream.  It's not as popular as basketball/football/baseball but it has turned into a routine for a lot of people.  CM Punk v. Mandy Bohm could headline a FN, with Tyron Woodley and a one-legged homeless man as the co-main and you can bet I will still be on the couch with a few beers and buddies watching every single fight.

Ufc also essentially has no competition so they aren’t pressured to put out a better product. They could do 6 straight weeks of wmma main events and still do better viewership than pfl

Seems like Perez is being rewarded for making a good showing of himself in his loss to Mokaev. He showed he can still hang despite not winning a fight in 4 years. Not saying he's earned it but the UFC is clearly trying to throw him a bone since his last 3 opponents have been 2 champions and then the divisions hottest prospect/current #1 contender (who he arguably beat). As well as he fought against Mokaev, it still seems wrong putting a guy with no wins over anyone on the current roster in a main event.

I think under more ideal circumstances, the UFC would give this shot to Albazi, Mokaev or Tagir. Even if Albazi was healthy, which I don't think he is yet, none of these 3 were options because this event is too close to the end of Ramadan.
