I like Thawng but I’m not as high on him as you guys, he’s got good striking and a high ceiling because of his age but he has some clear holes in his wrestling defense

I think he loses here too. Moran is a beast; very high level striking and movement

I was about to ask why that Hamdy guy got signed when he's only 3-0 (or 5-0). Like realistically he's the DEFINITION of someone who should go through the Contender Series, but he's an Olympic heavyweight so it makes sense. That division needs new blood BADLY

I still think contender series was the route they should have gone with him, but they must badly want fresh blood at 265. Even then, they’ve signed a lot of 265ers for dwcs so this one doesn’t make sense. I like the guy and I like what I’ve seen from him, but given the record and inexperience I don’t really understand it. Not gonna complain tho cuz he’s probably better than some of the garbage in the division rn

Like they signed Jimmy Lawson to dwcs who is literally a credentialed wrestlers at penn state (one of the best NCAA wrestling programs of all time) and in terms of mma, I think has done more yet he’s not going straight to the ufc

Eh, having watched most of the pro fights of both Lawson and Abdelwahab I can tell you Hamdy is a better prospect. More athletic, less wild striking, better gas tank, more committed to using his wrestling skills

I object less to the fact that he's going directly to the UFC and more that he was signed instead of some of the excellent and more proven talents out there who aren't even getting a DWCS look. The UFC needs new heavyweight blood, but why not bring in someone like Oleg Popov, who just destroyed Bigfoot Silva, or Shamil Gaziev, who just beat one of my favorite HW prospects in Kirill Kornilov? I guess if you're unwilling to sign Russians currently it gets more difficult, as that's where most of the top talent is outside of major promotions

Ah I haven’t rewatched tape on either, just basing off of memory. I mean, Hamdy is the more credentialed wrestler so it makes more sense

Also I believe Popov is somehow signed to Bellator. I was checking their signed fighters in Wikipedia and his name is there. Then again it is Wikipedia so probably incorrect

IDK how Popov would be signed to Bellator when he just fought 4 days ago in Russia, unless there's some strange non-exclusive contract stuff going on

Yeah didn’t make sense to me either. I mean, Bellator does let their fighters fight outside the promotion so maybe it’s that

Gaziev is definitely getting signed, he just had a fight like 3 days ago, chill. As for Popov he's not a Bellator fighter, that's an error. Apart from the fact that he has a Soviet Russian clown's name (search up his name), he has never fought in Bellator or been scheduled to fight there. It's a dumb error

Nvm. After further research it seems Bellator signed him very recently. Probably contract/visa issues, and since Bellator lets their fighters fight elsewhere they let him destroy Bigfoot before making his debut. Would've been real embarrassing if he were the one to snap Silva's losing streak though
