Ankalaev won a close fight versus a game Nikita Krylov (#8) this weekend. He has power, distance control, varied strikes, and solid grappling skills. Tomorrow he will probably take the #8 position in the Light Heavyweight rankings. He would like to return after Ramadan, in July.

WHO SHOULD ANKALAEV FIGHT NEXT?

1. Santos(#2)/Rakic(#4) Loser - These two top light-heavy weights face off this weekend. The loser will have to fight down and will make the perfect matchup versus Magomed. Do you agree?

2. Smith(#6)/Crute(#12) Winner - Scheduled for April 24, the winner of this fight will be in a near identical position as Ankalaev. Most likely, Crute will win and the Crute v Ankalaev fight would be perfect; pitting two young contenders against one another. Either guy would soon be fighting for the belt.

3. Volkan Oezdemir (#7) - Out for 8 months since a KO loss to Jiri Prochazka (#5) in August 2020, the UFC may put this fight together since it will see a #7 versus #8. Volkan has not signed a fight yet, and will have several more months of preparation if he agrees to the Ankalaev matchup. If the UFC is slow playing Ankalaev they may feed him a declining Oezdemir to allow him a tune-up fight before facing the top guys at 205lbs.
