Shogun v. Hendo was one of the greatest ever.  Shogun's chin just went from legendary status to godly.  Some of those shots would have knocked out a moose.  What do you all think of the decision?  If there was gonna be a winner it had to be Dan, he definitely won the first 3 rounds.  But I thought round 5 could have easily been scored 10-8, resulting in a draw.  Thoughts?

phenominal fight. I've been a Shogun fan for a while and it always irks me when people dismiss his cardio or heart. Hendo dished out a beating. I think after this fight no one can doubt his heart.

I would have definitely scored the last round 10-8 and the fight a draw, but I'm huge fan of both guys and a draw would been the perfect ending,

There's absolutely no way you could hate either guy.  Both have the heart of warriors and overcame adversity to make it to the final bell.  Shoguns' chin is nukeproof.  Dude ate at least 7 H-bombs and lived to tell the tale, and nearly topped Henderson himself.

Best fight I've ever seen .

I scored the fight in favor of Hendo.  I'll have to go back and rewatch though.

I had the fight a draw but I need to go back and rewatch the first 3 rounds and see if Hendo could have scored a 10-8 anywhere. Great fight though and Im a big fan of both fighters.

The 3rd round would be the opportune 10-8 round for Hendo.  I could see it, but with the way they scored Edgar/Maynard II, who knows.  Bottom line is that the judging system does not work for mma.

I had round 3 for Hendo and round 5 for Shogun 10-8's, with Hendo winning the decision.

But after watching a second time I feel Shogun was too competitive in the third to warrant a 10-8.

47-47 draw, imo.

How could round 3 be a 10-8 for Henderson? Shogun nearly locked in a kneebar on Hendo and he was starting to get the better of him in the striking exchanges by the last minute. And the last round was total control for Rua, he had full mount for half the round. This fight was a clear draw, I was pissed when the fight went to Hendo. Amazing fight though.

It was a heel hook, and he obviously didn't lock it in lol.

Ya but he was competitive enough to keep the round at 10-9. How many 10-8 rounds have you seen with the loser getting a near submission?

There's no reasonable definition of what a 10-8 round is or should be. The scoring system is a farce.

The scoring system is a farce. Might as well revert to the old days where the judges hold up a card saying which fighter won.

I think Hendo had the 3rd round 10-8 after dropping him, busting Shogun's face, and landing huge GNP for the whole round. Then the 5th was 10-8 Shogun, clearley mounted him the whole time and was landing punches, none as significant as Hendo's though. Hendo took 1-3 and Shogun took the last 2, both had 10-8 rounds so yeah I think it was the right decision.

Re watched the 3rd round. Not sure I would consider it a 10-8 as Shogun had a sub attempt and was landing at the end of the round. I agree though with Gregory that the scoring system is broke and needs better definition.

I kept saying "48-47 unanimous for Hendo" as they were getting ready to announce the scores.  I thought Hendo very clearly won the first 3 rounds 30-27 then clearly lost the next 2 rounds 18-20.  I don't agree that the 5th round was 10-8 for Shogun.  Sure Hendo was gassed, but Shogun didn't come too close to finishing from what I remember.  I thought Hendo came much closer to finishing the fight on a few occasions so if anyone deserved a 10-8 round in this fight, it's Hendo.

Fact is Hendo won 3 rounds, destroyed Shogun's face, and came very, very close to finishing Shogun several times while Shogun showed a lot of heart in battling back through those last 2 rounds.  I'm just amazed that Hendo basically ran on fumes during those last two rounds.  I thought there might be a stoppage due to exhaustion.

Shogun kept his hands up to sustain the heavy damage Hendo was inflicting which impressed me alot. But what blew my mind was his 2nd wind in the 4th and 5th which made the fight rival great fights such as the ledgendary Bonnar vs Griffin and Hughes vs Trigg 2.

I agree with you in full. We had the fight pretty much the exact same way. I picked Hendo to win VIA KO or TKO in 2 ut Shoguns hard head stopped that from happening.

Fightmetric scored it a draw, which I agree with. Round 5 was clearly a 10-8, there is no argument there. Round 3 could have been 10-8 Henderson, but I think Rua did enough near the end to make it 10-9.

Amazing fight though.

Bonnar somehow managed 2 10-8 rounds on one judges score cards..kind of baffling how at least one judge didn't score Shogun/Hendo a draw

It really does come down to round 3. When I was watching the fight live, I scored rounds 1 and 2 10-9 for Hendo, round 3 10-8 for Hendo, round 4 10-9 for Shogun and round 5 10-8 for Shogun. After re-watching the fight today, I think round 3 was a 10-9 for Hendo because of the work Shogun did in the second half of the round. Still, the real problem here is that none of the judges awarded Shogun a 10-8 in the last round, which is absolutely ridiculous.
