Shogun v. Hendo was one of the greatest ever.  Shogun's chin just went from legendary status to godly.  Some of those shots would have knocked out a moose.  What do you all think of the decision?  If there was gonna be a winner it had to be Dan, he definitely won the first 3 rounds.  But I thought round 5 could have easily been scored 10-8, resulting in a draw.  Thoughts?

I honestly did not think the last round was 10-8 even though Hendo spent the whole round on his back he still was very active, got back to half gaurd four or five times punched from bottom and Hendo i felt was never in any serious danger of being finished.

Hendo won that fight and i could see trying to make the case for the 5th round being 10-8 but then you would also have to make the case that the 3rd was 10-8 for Hendo.

Regardless of the scoring that was imo the greatest MMA fight of all time.

I dont see how scoring the 5th a 10-8 would make the 3rd a 10-8, very different rounds. Round 3 was Hendo lighting Shogun up early but Shogun started to turn the tides with the sub attempt and landing better strikes later in the round. The 5th round was all Shogun. He threw Hendo to the ground, continuously gained full mount and landed significant ground and pound.

IMO the 5th was a 10-8 but not the 3rd

Well i just meant that the argument could be made that the 3rd was also a 10-8 i thought it was pretty dominate for Hendo and i wouldn't count Shogun's heehook attempt as really being to dangerous.

I think that if you just scored the fight as a whole there would be almost no question that Hendo won and i can see the 5th being 10-8 but i think overall it was a good decision.

The 3rd definitely could be considered 10-8, the real problem is what exactly qualifies for a 10-8.

I agree that if fights were scored as a whole and not by round that Hendo won.

That was an epic fight. It went way beyond my expectations, the entire card exceed my expectations. As far as the Hendo v Rua fight though I thought Rua won it personally. But its one of those fights where it is so close that a decision for either guy is justified. It really comes down to the individual and how the saw the fight. Its a shame Shogun didnt have more energy in those last two rounds he could have finished Hendo pretty easily at that point.

Ya and that's the real problem like @greg has been saying, there is no real definition of a 10-8

Insane. Scientists must conduct research on what Shoguns face is made of, then build multiple nuke-proof fortresses from it. I had it scored as a draw, Hendo with the first three, Shogun with the last two, the last round being 10-8. Its insane to think Shogun is only 29.. His future is still awesome.

Yeah, I think the main problem is there's no real definition of what a 10-8 is.  I mean if you want to base it only on control/dominance, then round 5 was 10-8 for Shogun.  But, if you base it only on damage and being close to finishing your opponent, then round three could have been 10-8 for Dan.

There do need to be some concrete criteria laid out, IMO.
