Daniel Cormier put his name on the heavyweight map this past weekend at Strikeforce but it may have come at a cost as the undefeated finalist injured his hand during his bout against Antonio Silva.

"I kind of hurt my hand on the very first right hand when he went down," said Cormier. "When he got up, I was like, 'How am I going to get through 15 minutes with my hand hurting like it was?' But I kept going. I kept throwing it."

It has not yet been determined if the injury will have any effect on how the tournament finals play out. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker is playing the waiting game at this point "If Daniel wasn't available for an extended period of time, we'd consider another opponent (for Barnett)," said Coker. "We'll wait and see how his hand is after X-rays."

The finals of the eight man grand prix are expected to take place in early 2012 when Cormier meets Josh Barnett.

I have absolutly no interrest in a final between Barnett and Del Rosario or Griggs.

I hope Cormier can fight!

I don't care who wins that fight.

Two great fighters, both exciting in their own way.

They should definitely Griggs in since he's the guy who won all of the alternate fights in the first place. I thought that they were unfairly robbing him of an oppourtunity by giving Overeem's slot to Cormier since Griggs had already earned the slot. Even though he would probably get arm triangled quickly he earned it and has a punchers chance.

i have said this before. griggs is the most underappreciated fighter in the heavyweight division. he crushed overeems brother in his last fight. i can see why they went with cormier though,  he is an olympian.

Everyone who punches Bigfoot seems to break their hand!

Having a replacement fighter in the finals would basically be a joke, but maybe it would be a fitting and symbolic end to a messed up tournament.

I have the feeling that Cormier is the kind of person that would walk in there with a broken arm if they let him. I still expect Barnett vs Cormier in the final whether or not his hand is still injured by then.

If Chad Griggs gets put into Cormier's place, and somehow defeated Barnett, all MMA forums or websites would crash.

I like Cormier, and he will get a spot in the UFC no matter what.  The fact that he won't fight Cain somewhat devalues the outcome of the Grand Prix for me.  He was saying he would drop to 205 before fighting Cain.  Pending the winner of Cain and JDS, Cormier wouldn't really have a place if Cain wins.  I'm pulling for Barnett to see if he gets another shot in the UFC.

i read on the news that cormier's hand is broken. you think SF, coker, zuffa, whoever (that person that decides this stuff)lets him heal up or do they replace him? i would say let him heal up.

Look what happened with Overeem, don't think for a second they won't replace Cormier despite the momentum going into the finals.  It would be a shame, I would rather not see Barnett put a beating on Del Rosario or Griggs.  If I were to choose, I would be interested in Werdum vs. Barnett, but that's absolute worst case scenario.
