When Maia can't take down wrestlers, he has issues, I don't think he's getting Colby down. But this is the perfect fight for Colby to prove himself, can he avoid the jitz and stay disciplined. We'll see.

Gonna go with Colby, but might change my mind later on. Could see him wanting to prove a point by taking Maia down and then getting swept or subbed.

Props to Maia for taking a fight like this on a short time after his last fight.

Impressive R2 arm triangle choke submission. Maia will be on him from the moment the fight starts and will never let up. That's how I see it going.

If Colby can stuff the takedowns and bully Maia I think he might win a decision here.

I've been thinking about Colby's post fight interview more. At first I thought he obviously crossed the line, but then I started thinking. The UFC has been all around the world. There is only one place I can think of where the crowd chants "You're gonna die!" or anything even close to that at anyone competing against one of their own; that's Brazil.

Perhaps it isn't that unreasonable for a fighter to call them out for their ******* behavior after winning the fight while dealing with their obnoxious chants.

New Zealand rugby players perform an intimidating ritual right before every damn game and no one cares. The Brazilian crowd chants "Uh, vai morrer!" (You gonna die!) in an intimidating way to support their fighters... and the American fighters and the MMA community get extremely sensitive and scared. It's not literal. It's just an intimidating ritual. No one is going to die.
Imagine the situation: you leave home, go to the arena, spend a lot of money on tickets to watch an event and maybe escape life for a few hours... and then comes a totally unknown guy who talks **** about your town and your country and calls you "filthy animal"... is that ok for you? I would totally ******* hate if I spent money to watch someone insult me this way for absolutely no reason.
This guy Covington went too far. It's absurdly stupid what he did. It's totally indefensible!

He did not go to far, he gave the uncouth Brazilians who chant that disgusting **** a taste of their own medicine. I don't care if that's their tradition to tell their opponents they're going to die in ball sports, **** that tradition. And since Brazil is such a crazy place to be with the huge murder rates, it shows that this chant is a little more sinister than friendly banter from fans. It shows deep rancor.

This isn't even a team sport, but this is literally the most nationalistic and hostile place the UFC goes too. Most markets can have a non local headlining and people cheer, but not with Brazil, it has to be a Brazilian in every fight against a foreigner and they get as silent as a mouse when a Brazilian loses. I was actually happy to see someone take Brazil down a peg.
