First ever UFC women's flyweight fight:
- Letourneau vs. Calderwood

I'll be interested in seeing how long it'll takes before the UFC has a w125 belt on the line.

Ehhhh I'd be lying if I said "what we need is more womens fights!"

This may not necessarily lead to more women's fights. The division could essentially mean the smaller wBW and the larger SW now have a more appropriate weight class to compete in.

Jessica Eye, Liz Carmouche, and Valentina Shevchenko could all "easily" move down. Justine Kish, Aisling Daly, and Nina Ansaroff could all move up (along with Letourneau and Calderwood). Plus they could add Barb Honchak from Invicta. That would give the UFC a good base to start a new division.

Perhaps once Tate loses her belt she'll want to drop down and fight at FlyW. Also JJ might want to try and become a 2 division UFC champ.

Nice.  I'm really intrigued at who the UFC will bring in for this division, outside of the small bantamweights and tall strawweights that are already in the UFC.

Other then Barb Honchak (who seems over Invicta), I really hope the UFC doesn't poach the Invicta FlyW division. It's just starting to get intriguing there, but not UFC caliber.

Well JJ recently mentioned recently she wanted to hold two belts and it certainly wasn't gonna happen at 135. So not really that surprised they are considering introducing the new division.

I like it but why Calderwood? She hasn't fought over 115 since late 2012. Where as Jessica Andrade has fought at 135 a long time but her next fight is at 115 vs Penne.

Letourneau vs. Andrade whould of been a great matchup at 125. Andrade is probably pissed that she signed on to do a 115 fight, not knowing that a fight at 125 might of been possible.

Calderwood might not be the buffest fighter in the SW division, but she might of been the slowest. Hopefully she puts on some more strength for her new weight class.

I thought this was just a flyweight bout? Where did they say they're starting a new women's flyweight division?

Everywhere I read, it's reported clearly that they are NOT starting a women's flyweight division, yet everyone is talking about a new division.

A bout ≠ a whole new division.

True. However it's probably more to do with them not announcing what they're doing to determine the UFC champion yet. Also I'm sure they're waiting for more fighters to reach out to them about wanting to go to flyweight.

@dirtytomflint  I assume this is to serve as a test bout to see if a Women's 125 division is viable.

Before this match was announced, I was personally predicting that the UFC would spring a surprise at the end of TUF and have Joanna vs. Claudia be contested at 125 for the 1st flyweight women's title in the UFC.

Tate is pretty tough. I feel she will not be the champ by the end of the year, though.

I think Tate gets past Nunes, but loses the 135 belt back to Rousey at MSG in November. After that I think she cuts the weight and drops to 125 and gets the belt at that division in '17. Leaving us all to debate what her legacy means.

I see it that way too and exactly what the UFC wants.

IF UFC want to make more women weight class they shoul not respect the actual division. They should do 115-130-145 or 110-125-140 IF they make 115-125-135 at least 2 of them will be worst then men flyweight!

Calderwood has just looked like **** at 115 as she has gotten older. She used to be faster and crisp, now slow and flat. Much like renan's career went trying to make 135. Hopefully they create the division.

UFC recently signed Tapology ranked No.6 Flywight Poliana Botelho (per Gadelha Twitter) although media mentioned she will be fighting at strawweight.

Poliana Botelho is a big flyweight. That cut to 115 will be killer.
