As many Tapology regulars know, Xplode Fight Series is a regional promotion out of California that is hot garbage.  They seem to take great joy in padding the records of fighters they promote by matching 10-0 prospects against 0-3 jobbers with no ammy fights.  Many forum regulars here have had many an eye-roll when picking said fights.

It wasn't until recently that someone broke down how scientifically awful XFS really is.

Example for the uninitiated:

From the article describing the above "fight";
The video begins with the introduction of our two combatants. In the “Liquid Nitro red corner,” we see Katie Castro. Billed as an “independent fighter”, Castro fumbles with her gloves and appears to be unfamiliar and uncomfortable with wearing them. Her black top and grey/black pants give the impression that she probably got lost on the way to her hot yoga class. She’s a mini van shy of fulfilling every possible soccer mom stereotype.

Setup to the spreadsheet <- nice to see Tapology cited as a go-to reference for accurate fighter records :)

Spreadsheet <- the 2nd tab was more useful (imho)

Suzanne Davis is the author, hit her up with a follow.

In summary:

Her excellent summary:

At best, the events that Xplode Fight Series promotes are nearly farcical and all-but-pre-scripted. (Even that is up for debate.) At worse, they’re negligent and dangerous. Yes, yes...the old adage of ”they know what could happen when they signed up for it” applies. Still, promoters and commissions are responsible for the safety those same fighters disregard.

The sport we watch finds ways to mix brutality and beauty and blood. It also mixes heart, strategy, and determination. I’d like to see them come out of the cage (or ring) as close as possible to the same way they went in.

What say you Tapology?

How much different was that fight than Ronda vs Bethe honestly? But, uh, yeah. This isn't a new problem at all, but this seems to be a pretty extreme case and it seems to happen at XFS way too regularly. I don't get it. What do any of them have to gain doing this? Even the people who win. How impressive is a 10 - 0 record when you got it fighting complete cans? I think all major promotions take those things into account, so again I don't really see how anyone is benefiting from this. Commissions and promotions should have enough sense and morality not to put someone in a cage fight that's in no way qualified to be in one.

0-3 jobbers is really putting it mildly. They have on their "roster" 0-10, 0-15 and even 0-20 and above (below?) jobbers, 99% of whose losses are first round finishes (usually within the first minute). They run events including those stars in reservations and either omit or plain lie about the jobbers' records (for example announcing a 0-5 jobber as 3-3).

Another thing btw to watch out for is Gladiator Challenge that seems to be doing the exact same thing. In fact the same jobbers seem to appear in both organizations sometimes getting destroyed at Xplode first before going to Gladiator the next week and then returning to Xplode.

Some of random Xplode/Gladiator Challenge guys:

Miguelito Marti (1-18)
Jordan Delano (1-16)
Edward Darby (0-21)
Evan Barrera (0-4)
Shawn Stevenson (0-5)
Mario Casares (0-12)
Chad McEwen (0-6)
Joey Apodaca (0-9)
Anthony Moore (0-14)
Phelan Fleming (0-10)

My 2 cents (as a guy who actually tried to start putting their events into Tap for a bit because my OCD was killing me when I saw fighter's records were wrong due to lacking XFS cards), I'm pretty sure they're not sanctioned by CSAC (you can never find their events in CSAC's public records), they're almost always refereed by Cecil Peoples which is already dangerous and kinda smells shady and here's the real gem, once I tried to contact someone to get card details in advance to see If I could make them pickable (with thoughts of multiple black beauties for everyone in my mind) and his answer was something along the lines of "**** off! We don't publicize our cards in advance because *******s **** with our cards".

I have absolutely no idea what that even means, but in a sport where the fighters are what sell the cards (and of course they want to sell), not saying who's fighting is pretty shady if you ask me.

As alreaday stated in this thread, they usually have a few "in-house" fighters who are fed soccer-moms, beach bums, hobos that will almost perfectly mirror the 0-10s and 0-16s from @joe's post with 10-0s and 16-0s and about 80% of their fights are TKO1s.

@yoss  What in the actual ****?  What kind of professional business person who runs a fight promotion not only doesn't publicize their fight cards (even if it is just 1-2 weeks before the card), but to people curious about promoting their organization with "**** off! We don't publicize our cards in advance because *******s **** with our cards." ?  That's the same kind of response I would expect out of a ******* teenager, not a professional fight promoter.

Then again, as I type this post I remind myself of the time Dana White called Greg Jackson "a ******* sport killer" in an over the phone press conference.  So it's not too farfetched to have a fight promotion with a childish promoter at the helm.

I think the thing that makes this "fight promotion" really shady is the fact that the CSAC has none of XFS' events in their public records.  Surely any organization that does sanctioned MMA fights in the state of California (which has an established MMA commission that has sanctions UFC events) has to have their events publicly documented by the CSAC.

Well, to be fair, he didn't actually tell me to **** off, it was my interpretation of his "tone". He was actually kind enough to answer my email which most legit regional promotions don't even spare the time to do.

His answer was just pretty defensive, as if he's been through some **** and is very suspicious of anyone sniffing around XFS business.

EDIT:: Oh, and from my personal experience, a lot of the promoters are actually people who act like teenagers. Some are super cool though.

Shockingly, Yoss's account of XFS not wanting to give out fight cards due to suspicion of medling by other promotions happens all the time. Both XCC and WCC in Pennsylvania refuse to give out fight cards as well.

XFS generally holds their events in an Indian casino, so the CSAC doesn't have much (any) say.  However, the Tribe has to hire CSAC refs, so some pressure might be applied that way.

Fell free to contact the CSAC and tell how dangerous this for the fighters and bad for our sport:

@poir, I've encountered those too ... they're the most annoying.

They give everything out when they want to sell, all info, regular updates on social media, the whole shebang, but after the event's done they have some secretary spend 20 minutes to update their site or post results and you don't hear from them until they're promoting their next card.

The bad fight promoters make the good ones look that much better.

Driller/SEG in my area are awesome.

Brock Larson has has a few promotions in ND/MN, and it is always radio silent.  Eventually he just changes the name of the promotion.

There are bad promoters all over, sometimes I want to quit covering them, but then its not fair to the fighters who's records are not complete. There is a promoter who sent us all their results without us asking via PDF, which is awesome. But then I find dozens of results in video form that they never mention. I can only speculate on why they didnt list them on their PDFs. My guess is they didnt like the result or didnt care about the fighter. but either way, those promoters are everywhere and it sucks.

Then there are great promotions that go out of their way to make sure you have all the info you need and its correct. AUFC out of Egypt is awesome. I hope they get big in that region because of how professional they are.

The thing that kills me is that this is free promotion for these guys. It's not like we are asking them for money to be shown on Tapology, ITS FREE! All it costs them is a few minutes to type up an email sometimes and it just seems they can't be bothered. I agree it's not fair to the fighters but there is only so much you can do when there is literally no information online anywhere about results and the promoters just won't respond.
