Anyone else shocked by this news? I know he is a little old at 36 but he seemed to be on quite a run. But better to retire too soon than too late. One of the most entertaining fighters not only in the welterweight division but in all of the UFC. He will be missed.

He will probably go balls to the wall, trying to go out with a win.  Hardy needs this win to hang around.  This fight should be good!

Its a little shocking but at the same time its not. i mean he has to realize he has no chance at a belt and if he wasnt one of the most entertaining fighters around he probably would have been cut long ago. Its going to have suck not have his FOTN's anymore

It kind of sucks because Lytle is a great fighter and a true brawler. I understand his reasons though, hopefully he can go out on top.

Its always to go out on your own terms. Its sad to see a guy stick around too long (Chuck, Randy, Wand) and get smashed.

This sucks but it's not all that surprising. He has political aspirations so it's probably a good time to go out. Plus he'll be going out with a win so that will be pretty nice for him!!!!!!!!!!

Lytle's reason was he felt bad for not being there for his kids, among other things

"I've been fighting since '98, fighting forever, a lot of it is just that I'm not doing my responsibilities like I need to at home," he said. "I feel like I'm not being the type of dad I want to. I got four kids and lots of times I feel just an immense sense of guilt for not being there in times when I should."

"I just feel like I have a lot of things in my head that I feel guilty about," he said. "I have a great time fighting, and I love fighting — I want to do it all the time — but I think that sometimes it's time for me to not think about what I want and start thinking about what's best for other people."

This is sad for the fans, but I'm happy for Lytle. He's leaving on his own terms. He's had an amazing career.

I had a feeling this was it for him. I know he considered leaving after his last fight.

It did surprise me a little bit b/c he had mentioned he wanted to win and go for another title shot.

I'll definitely miss watching him fight.  He's a class act with a huge heart, heavy hands, and constantly put on a great show.  Props to him for making the right decision at the right time, though.

Couldn't have ended his career on a better note.  Getting the better of Hardy on the feet, almost chocking him unconcious with less than a minute to go, two fight night bonuses, and a Harley!  Good for him and his familiy!  I always enjoyed watching Lytle's fight as he is a very well rounded fighter.

Lytle was awesome to watch he always came to fight and we are gonna miss him...Maybe Dan Hardy can step into the void that is gonna be left now since he always comes in to fight too...I wish Lytle the very best in the future and say thank you for the entertainment you provided!
