Was it just me or does anyone else think "sexyama" went down very easy from Belforts hook, which i might add looked like it never even connected????

I was thinking the same thing and was looking for it on the replay and couldn't see anything that connected.

I don't know what you guys were looking at, but I saw the replay and saw the connection.  It wasn't a powerful shot on the jaw or anything, but he did clip Aikiyama on the top/side of the head, which is an awkward place to get hit.  It was apparently enough to stun him, and Belfort capitalized and finished the fight.

@RMLawman  I only saw the replay once but you could very well be right I just know that it looked like the punch looped right over his head

@Lawman...  You are exactly right.  The replay shows the strike glancing right on the top/side of the head and you could see Vitor's fist get deflected.  But what really put Akiyama out was that blow to the back of the head when he was crouched over.  Anyone else see that?

That was a horrific shot to the back of the head. This seems to happen to Vitor alot, but i can't fault him for the guy he's blasting is always laying on their stomach. Vitor looked awesome, he wasn't tentative and looked in the best shape of his life.

So long as the shot to the back of the head is incidental, as it was with Belfort and Aikiyama, I don't have a problem with it.  He was en route to finishing the fight anyway, that back of the head punch was just icing on the cake.

@storman

You should let Vitor Belfort clip you with a shot to the side of the head and see how long you stay upright. People say he has heavy hands for a reason. Just like he said whatever he touches goes to sleep and he should start bringing pillows for people.

@everyone else

Did you just see the one shot to the back of the head? I think there were a couple more. Probably looking for that tastey little button right behind the ear and got a little off track whiloe Sexyama was tossing in his sleep/rolling in his grave.

I'm all for it in that situation, the guys is clearly rocked and when he's laying in the "male date ****" position what else does Belfort have to hit?

The opposite argument to the "Well, he was on his way to finishing anyway" is that ok, what if Vitor soccer kicked him?  Stomped him?  An illegal blow is an illegal blow no matter the type.  That is just one point of view.  But yeah, the punch barely clipped him and that was followed up by 3 back to the head punches for sure.

@Thiago, they were most definitely on the base of the spine/skull. Direct blows. Very dangerous and i do  believe illegal. Similar to what he did against Franklin. Feed his ass to Silva and let him get humiliated AGAIN.

Kalibo, are you suggesting that a fighter get DQed for an incidental illegal blow, when he's pretty much already won the fight?  There's a huge difference between an incidental back of the head blow, and an intentional soccer kick or stomp.  One takes intent, the other doesn't carry any. I think the intent to break the rules should carry a stiffer penalty.  In this particular situation, Vitor was caught up in the moment of trying to finish the fight, and didn't do anything that was blatantly against the rules.  If he would've stood up and performed a soccer kick or stomp on his downed opponent, then I think that would be a different story.

So he was trying to duck the punch when he took a grazing one to the tip top of his dome. I didn't understand why he fell either haha

Most of the time it's the shot you don't see that puts you on ***** street.  I'd be willing to bet he didn't see that punch coming that clipped him at the top side of his head and tilted his world.  The shots to the back of the head I feel, while evident, were not intentional.
