They both started out the same......
WWW.PAIROFSIXTEENZ.NET FOR ALL YOU HIP HOP/MMA NEWS.
In 1979, the disco era just ending. There's a new sound emerging out of New York parties as local MC's begin rhyming over funk and disco tracks. That sound that we know today is hip hop. The most popular, most money making, and world wide music to date. It took a turn for the worse in its rise to the top. People would say "its too violent", "it should be censored", "laws should be made to ban this music", and they tried; but something so good can't be kept down for long. Look at it today, most of your fighters workout to it, during the walk out coming to the octagon you hear it loud as ever. The last video dairy for the UFC youtube page, now champion, Dominik Cruz, had loud hip hop blasting in the background of his car. So......which brings me to MMA. It started out the same way. People would say, "its too violent", "it shouldn't be on tv", "laws should be made to stop this sport", and it was. But something so good can't be kept down long. Look at the "LIKE" us on the UFC facebook page, look at anyone in the UFC business twitter followers, look at the UFC youtube page and all its subscribers. The same way hip hop was the fastest growing music, same for MMA. You can't separate the two, they are like brothers. Thats why the hip hop community supports it because they seen its early struggles in the beginning. Everyone hated MMA in the beginning but now its a different story. I saw Dana White pound up Lil Jon, Drake, and Rick Ross and past UFC fights. Hell, even at the gym I do muay thai it only blast hip hop. I guess it just put you in a certain mind frame. A better focus. Bottom line you can't have hip hop without MMA, and MMA without hip hop.
