With 3 decisive wins in a row I wonder what Makdessi needs to do to get a raise in competition level. Patrick looked good in his debut, but this isn't it. Makdessi deserves a step up.

Those losses to Njokuani and especially Hallman set him back a few spots.

But it just goes to show you how broad the UFC matchmaking is. They feed some guys to the wolves like McKenzie to Mendes and Oliveira to Frankie Edgar. Some fighters need like 7 wins in a row to get a top 15 fighter.

Maybe, but it's not like I'm saying give him a title shot, just give him a fair chance of working his way up there. 2-3 pegs up would be a nice start. This is his second fight in a row against someone who's "consensusly" ranked under him (both not easy fights, btw) ... how can a fighter work his way up when he's constantly fighting down?

I think every time a low-tier fighter gets a sweet KO they go "ooh, lets match him up with Makdessi and have us a nice striking match" ...

I dunno, maybe they're still blacklisting him due to him missing weight before the AJ fight, maybe it's just a case of exciting enough to give a nice mid-card striking fight but not important enough or doesn't have enough fans for us to give him a solid career path.

One way or the other he doesn't have any choice but to do it the Fitch/Matt Brown way ... keep winning until they have no choice.

They consistently gave Brown a slight increase in competition. He was on the chopping block for a while too, so I don't necessarily blame the UFC when it comes to Brown, especially when you're dealing with arguably the most stacked division. And they did eventually give him the Condit fight, he just had a spell of bad luck.

Makdessi hasn't missed weight since, so he's got that going for him. And he has improved since those back to back losses. 4 wins in a row should do it. I would love to see him fight Cerrone

This is a raising battle for Nuguete, and not a profitable one for Makdessi. Mack doesnt get any more name value with a win over Nuguete, but Allan surely would.

@cal1, lol^^^! and also exactly what I said ... every newcomer that gets a good KO, Joe Silva says "ooh, Makdessi + him = nice mid-card striking showcase".

Good for the fans, good for the UFC, not so much for Makdessi who gets stuck in the same place always fighting tough-everything-to-lose-nothing-to-gain mid-carders.

Problem is, I don't really think he's got a say in the matter, with his still somewhat limited fanbase he needs to please them more than they need to please him.

Settle down hoss, Makdessi isn't getting anywhere close to a title shot ever, so who cares.

Once he fights a top grappler again, it's over for him, Joe Silva is giving him a chance at more victories.

I wouldn't be surprised if Patrick pulled the upset. However he seems to be mostly a striker which Makdessi has done well against previously. His best chance is to go for a submission. He was the most impressive up for it fighter at the weigh ins. Still can't pick him though
