This is a hard pick for me. I at a time had ties with Mohler MMA. I really think Pettis could get a KO on this fight.

Had Tokoro not been robbed in his fight against Campuzano at VTJ 3rd, this could've been his UFC debut fight. Not that either him or Campuzano have a chance at beating Sergio, but it would've been awesome to finally seeing Tokoro make his UFC debut.

Either way, Sergio pulls this off. I think the bigger questions here is how does Sergio pull this off. I'm sure he's finishing Will, but the round and method is what I'm not sure off because I'm sure Sergio's not going to let this go to the judges decision.

Campuzano is the best opponent Pettis has faced in his career but I see Pettis walking away with a UD win.

Man, I really don't wanna be the guy to pick against Pettis but Campuzano is being severely underrated here,

2. BW: WILL CAMPUZANO (13-4 MMA) VS. SERGIO “Bro-Time, aka The Waterboy” PETTIS (9-0 MMA):

Pettis - Rd 2 - TKO - 5

  • TALE OF THE TAPE:

    • Campuzano is seven years older (27 > 20), 3” inches taller, and a 1.5” inch reach advantage.

  • Campuzano Notes:

- Pro since 2008.

+ Has five first round finishes.

+ Has six wins by knockout, and three by submission.

- 1-2 record in WEC, 0-2 in The UFC.

- Trains at Mohler MMA / Team Takedown.

  • Pettis Notes:

- Pro since 2011. 3-0 amateur record. Started fighting at 15.

+ Three wins by knockout, three by submission, and three decision.

+ Five first round finishes.

+ 2nd degree blackbelt in Taekwondo, and he has a blue belt in BJJ.

+ Trains at Roufusport.

  • My Thoughts:

    • This is basicly two flyweights fighting at bantamweight. Campuzano is taking this fight for an injured Vaughn Lee on about a weeks notice, but he fought in October, so he’s presumably in decent shape. I can’t deny that I’m a big fan of Baby Pettis, but this is not an easy debut matchup, I fully expect Pettis to be overrated by oddsmakers, and Campuzano to be underrated to an extent. Opening odds prediction: Pettis -170.

@TommyT Your opening odds prediction of -170 for Sergio Pettis is ridiculously off, pretty funny actually.

The actual opening odds for Sergio Pettis in this fight is -475.

Campuzano will have a tough time, but he's fought in the UFC before, and Pettis hasn't. Pettis might have fight jitters or something. I don't know, but I'm taking Will for the upset.

@AnikM I'm not surprised at all, I have no buisness even guessing lines, I just make these to send to a friend and post them here, I also put zero stock in the tale of the tape, but it's just a part of these write ups after so many years. Having said that, here goes my money out the window on a Campuzano flyer! ha ha

Campuzano @ +300 has to be the bet for value alone. I put $5 on it, Camp is by far the best fighter lil' Pettis has fought to date.

I like your breakdown @TommyT don't worry about the odds. -170 is far better capped than -475. Like cal1 said there is definitely value on Campuzano.

I'll pick Pettis and hope he wins but if you watch his fights you can see some holes in his game. Of course that's no suprise since the kid is only 20 years old...

-475 on Sergio? That's ridiculous. I've liked Will for a long time, and although I don't think he's going to win, having Pettis at that line is dumb to me.

I think the oddsmakers are going off Campuzano's previous performance at 135 when he was with the UFC. And let's face it, did not have a good run.

But still, -475? On a extremely young fighter with limited experience against a seasoned vet? I might do what cal1 did and place a small bet on Campuzano.

I'll probably regret this, but when putting Sergio's last name aside, and looking at him as if he were any other no name fighter... I wouldn't normally pick a guy with his record, at his age, to beat a guy as experienced as Campuzano.

I´m picking Campuzano then I will change it last minute to Pettis to make sure Campuzano wins this.

nah Campuzano has this, Pettis is good but he is being rushed into the UFC and into fighting someone like Campuzano, is gonna be a tough fight but Wil´s experience will make the difference

Betting odds doesn't determine the projected skill difference. It determines what percentage of people think a fighter will win. -475 is a fairly accurate number for Pettis. That means around 82.6% (475/(475+100)) people think Pettis will win ignoring the booker's slight adjustments to make profit.

The UFC wants Lil Pettis to win!

Prediction: correct Pettis   wrong KO/TKO   wrong Round 1

More the Pettis brothers win the more money the UFC makes. Its simple, the UFC will pick great match ups for him to shine.
