They definitely needed to do this if they want space to build stars.

This definitely wasn't a surprise, their last women's tournament was in 2010.

Bellator was like a guy who has never touched a woman.. they had no idea what to do with them.

I'm hoping this means that Invicta will pick up Jessica Aguliar, who's my favorite female fighter. There's no way that I'm missing the next Invicta event.. as long as they still have it in Kansas City. All 6 of their events have been in KC, and I have yet to be at one. Scheduling and money just didn't work for me at those times, but I won't miss the next one!

Here is what some people don't understand about Bellator. Bellator is owned by VIACOM. Viacom is a publicly traded company. MMA/PPV is an extremely difficult business to make money in. Once Bellator starts loosing money it will affect VIACOMS bottom line and therefor their stock price.Once that happens VIACOM will dump Bellator by either shutting it down or selling it for scrap to recoup their losses. Don't forget, VIACOM bought Bellator cheap because Plainfield Asset Management was losing money. Spike ratings are down and nobody seems to want to buy this PPV.  Bellator will either be a UFC property or wont exist.

Bellator is too small to impact Viacom's financials or stock price.  It's small potatoes to them.

It's important to Spike TV's male/entertainment focused content strategy, and fits within the "fighting and wrestling" marketing thing they've got going. Even if it's losing them a bit of money they'll likely keep pushing it for a while, if not forever.

Bellator can't compete with the UFC. The UFC  pretty much has become the NFL version of MMA. I challenge you to name one major sport in the United State where two different entity control major market share in their respective sport.

By the way don't get me wrong. I am not saying Bellator is going to go out of business right now but over time I don't see Bellator being able to compete with the UFC.

Nascar and IndyCar is a decent example.

But it doesn't really matter... you are changing the topic away from Viacom's financials, which was your original point.

I don't think it's that big a secret Bellator loses money. Strikeforce had revenue over 30 million a year and still lost money. Bellator was not only scoring bad with fightmaster overall but the key Demo was in the tank. Even when Bellator was following TNA their key demo numbers weren't great.

Bigj383 I couldn't have put it better and by the way Gregory when you lose money in any business no matter how big or small you tend to try to cut your losses. The definition of running a successful business is making profit if your not making money on your investment you tend to sell it for scrap and recoup some of the money you lost.
