"I actually want to fight the best, and that's why I'm here," Alcantara said through a translator. "But I intend to fight in the 170-pound class. ... I intend to do the next fight at 170."

He should take a look at the divisions though. 170 > 185 in so many ways. And I understand he normally fights at 185 so why drop if the MW division is easier ?

Anyways good luck to him...

maybe he feels he can make the weight? Feeling a bit flabby at 185 maybe?

Thinking about it, when he fights at 185, he is roughly 195 on fight day. 6 punds lighter than he was vs Prado.
If he drops to 170,he'll be rughly 180 or even a bit bigger. about 12 pounds ,let's assume, lighter then when fighting at middleweight.

He seems lean, so maybe he has from where to get the weight off.

Wow ... looks like a different person at 170. Anyone see him at weigh-ins?

To be fair, he usually fights at 185 and only fought at 205 as a short notice replacement, but still, he didn't look out of place at 205 ...

I saw the weight ins, looks pretty good at 170. I hope he can get the win, i liked his last submission win in the UFC, nasty kneebar.
