Gray Maynard is a one dimensional fighter who lands a lucky big punch sometimes. His one dimension has been lacking too against Edgar and Guida both of which he couldn't score takedowns and lay on them like he loves to do.

He couldn't score takedowns and lay on Clay Guida, Guida was running away in circles ffs.

Prediction: Edgar  |  Decision

I think this could end up being one of the best fights of 2012...  I have Edgar , but I think this could go either way.

IMO, this is Aldo's toughest opponent of his career.  The same could be said for Edgar as well.

This is definitely edgars toughest opponent. Worst possible matchup for edgar.
But also aldos toughest opponent.
gonna be a good fight, pulling for edgar but aldo has this one in a convincing fashion i believe.

I really don't get how people are saying this is a bad matchup for Edgar. He's got the advantage in nearly every category. He'll finally have the reach on someone, he's equal to Aldo in speed, his boxing is unsurpassed, his TDD is unreal, he has great hands and throws guys around who are twice his size. Most of all, his conditioning blows Aldo's out of the water.

I like Jose Aldo, but I can't think of a single area where he matches up with Edgar. Think about what Mark Hominick was able to do to Aldo in that fight. Do you really think Hominick's in the same fighting universe as Frankie Edgar?

wait I got confused, you were talking about Aldo but then you started talking about Frankie mid sentence? Unless you think Frankie's boxing, TDD and "hands" are better than Aldo's but I highly doubt that a smart person such as yourself would make such asinine claims.

I'm looking forward to watch Edgar as a FW, but I'm not to sure if he will be as successful as he was in LW, he is a great fighter but he wins his fights in big part because of his heart/endurance and his speed he relies heavy on his speed to get in throw some combos and get out, and he is difficult to connect because of his speed also, he is not a great finisher, he doesn't have much KO power, and he is not the case (like Florian) of a LW that cut down, he is a natural FW or BW, so he won't have the size/length advantage, everyone will be as fast (or faster) than him, he will need to build new game plans and maybe even change his style a bit. I'm not saying he will not do well, but I just think his dominance is not a sure thing

@StealingFire What Hominick did to Aldo in that fight...? what get a baseball sized lump on top of he head from all the mauling Aldo gave him? Yes Hominick had a lot of heart and dominated the 5th only because Aldo screwed up his training and had a hard cut and since that fight he has lasted 5 round with far less gassing....

and please tell me how you say Edgar has advantage is almost all categories....
Aldo has advantage in striking power, precision, BJJ, clinch strikes, kicks and killer instinct
Edgar has advantage in movement, cardio, wrestling, clinch position, and TDD
They are about even in speed, hands, intelligent fighting, game plan

dont get me wrong both Edgar and Aldo are 2 of my favorite fighters, and this will be a hard fight but Aldo has more advantages than Edgar and Edgar doesn't have the advantages he is used to having when Aldo has most of his usual advantages

Looks like Frankie isn't taking Aldo too lightly. I think there are some subtle hints in Edgar's analysis of Aldo that he's gonna be looking to take this fight to the ground. http://www.mmaweekly.com/frankie-edgar-surprised-by-another-shot-at-ufc-gold-so-soon-but-wont-let-it-slip-away

I think he has a good shot to take him down :)
i dont think he can hold him there, or even take him down repeatedly. but i believe he will get a takedown. at least one. but overall Aldo will win

1 on 10?

Probably.

Actually no, Aldo's TDD is at 95%. So no, it's not probably at all. The only people to land TDs on Aldo are Kenny Florian (1TD on 19 attempts), Mark Hominick (1TD on 2 attempts in the last round of the fight where Aldo was very gassed because of a bad weight cut) and Jonathan Brookins (1TD on 3 attempts).

Jonathan Brookin is a beast which is why I think Oliveria could be the new face of the division once aldo moves up to LW.

I think Aldo is going to beat Edgar down badly.  I think Edgar has some idea that this is not a good matchup for him.

This could very well be true, but I honestly think given some time Oliveria will be better then edgar. I just think he has crazy potential.

Edgar should go down and face Cruz when Barao gets hurt. Would be an epic run of losses.

Frankie Edgar vs Dominick Cruz could have the potential to be my favorite fight ever, if Cruz wins of course.

The action in that fight would be amazing, I've never seen a boring Cruz fight.
