All of our talk about BJ's next fight.. well... he's not fighting in July anymore.  Any idea on why or what may be next?

BJ doesn't seem to have that much motivation to fight right now. Maybe him taking a break is a good thing. He's still young enough that he could have a lot of interesting fight over the next several years.

He was scared to face Condit...pity.

Even though I still like that fight I think he should just go back to LW and face off with Miller. That'd be a pretty sweet fight and the winner surely would be next for the title shot after Pettis.

Condit vs. Penn would have been a great fight, but to be honest, I'm a little bit happy he's pulling out of this fight, I really want to see Penn/Fitch II, and I think Fitch will take it decisively this time.

Dammit... This sucks. Penn taking time off isn't going to motivate him, giving him a fight that means something against an exciting fighter may had. You think Penn is fired up for Penn vs Fitch 2? Is anyone? I think every fight now should just be booked with an automatic rematch, that way we never get to see new exciting fights between top fighters! Ugh... If Penn didn't want to take a new opponent on short notice I would understand because he hasn't exactly been motivated recently anyway. If UFC just removed him without approaching him with a new opponent, especially if it was done so they could rebook Fitch vs Penn, then this is just plain dumb.

Yeah... I can't wait until more comes out about the surrounding circumstances.  Hopefully it will shed some light on things.

Sources are now saying it was an undisclosed injury to BJ that forced him to withdraw.

Anyone know if he was injured? I wasn't looking forward to Penn vs Condit because Condit is my favorite fighter and i wouldn't want to see him lose against BJ. However, just when I accepted that it would be a great fight, I learn about this. ****!

That kind of sucks for this card. I think the UFC was really relying on Penn being on the card to help sell it with a BW title fight as the main event. A lot of the casual fans don't really know Cruz and though many know Faber it's not close to the level that know and like Penn.

@thiagosilva Did he really look brilliant his last two fights? He got a quick win over a way over the hill Hughes. That hardly counts. He was then beaten brutally by Fitch in the 3rd round of their fight. He surprised Fitch with his game-plan, I would not say he looked brilliant though.

Penn didn't think he looked so brilliant either. He was talking about retirement immediately after the fight... Penn isn't that interested in fighting anymore, he wasn't about to fight a top contender on short notice.

I hear BJ is getting an MRI this week and we'll know more then.  I wouldn't consider Hughes over the hill at all yet.  BJ lost that 3rd round, but I wouldn't say he was brutally beaten.  I'm not even sure I would score that a 10-8 round, but that is a whole other can of worms!  3 months notice isn't exactly short either...

I would still love to see BJ vs. Condit.  I find that fight more interesting than Fitch to be honest.  I hate watching Fitch fight.

I don't care for Fitch's style either, but it is very effective.  Fitch is more and more seemingly in Rich Franklin's prediciment when he was in the MW class.  I think Fitch would do well as a MW... but back on topic... I hope BJ's injury isn't real serious, otherwise he may just retire.

I hope it's not bad either.  I think a Penn vs Condit fight would be very exciting fight to watch.  And I'm also very sick of these rematches... Edgar will be fighting in a title fight for the 4th time, and he's on opponent number 2.  I'm with Melvin on this one (Guillard).

It is a shoulder injury... he's out 6-8 weeks and said he would still fight Fitch on a later dated card.
